Maybe they want to keep their private lives private ? I can’t imagine too many actors that being “out of the closet” would hurt their careers. Maybe big action stars like Vin Diesel, The Rock or Tom Cruise.

Oh baloney. IF they ARE "hiding" their sexuality it's smart. ALL actors should keep their traps shut about their sexuality. Why? Because you automatically stereotype yourself. If a heterosexual male comes out and says "I'm proud to be straight" you can bet he's either going to get NO roles OR they are going to force him into playing a homosexual.

...part of the popularity comes from a female audience that likes inserting themselves into the fantasy. Would they be as willing to show up to the box office if the romantic lead were openly gay? Seems doubtful.

Rock Hudson was a perfect example. Had he "come out" early in his career he'd have lost much of his fan base, young women.
