A man who was arrested after refusing a temperature screening at Disney Springs in Florida told authorities that he couldn't be told to leave because he had spent $15,000 on his vacation.
The man, Kelly Sills, a tourist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, bypassed the Orlando attraction's medical screening in February and refused to get his temperature checked when asked by Disney employees, according to a report from the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Body camera video released recently showed Sills refusing to leave when asked by law enforcement.
"I spent $15,000 to come here," Sills said after a deputy told him that he was officially considered to be trespassing. Deputies and a security manager at Disney Springs had approached Sills outside the Boathouse restaurant, according to the police report.
The report said Sills argued with the security manager, yelling at him, before the manager told him he was "no longer welcome at the park today."
A woman could be heard asking officers not to arrest Sills in the video.
"He's not listening," a man responded. "All he had to do was get temperature-checked. That's it."
At another point in the video, Sills asked whether authorities could take his temperature before forcing him to leave. Someone responded that they would do so at jail, according to NBC affiliate WFLA of Tampa. Sills also claimed to be a Disney stockholder at another point.
Sills pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor trespassing charge, according to court records. His attorney, Michael Zmijewski, declined to comment Sunday.

Guns, ammo, nice downpayment on a truck, a real vacation somewhere really nice...., a really good time.
Yea,
Assuming the article is accurate, this guy definitely made a bonehead move. Yes the covid nonsense is nonsense, but you aren’t going to get them to break policy for you and arguing with the manager and or staff isn’t going to change a corporates policy.
He certainly can refuse to have his temperature taken, and they can refuse him service. May not like it, believe it to be nonsense myself, but that’s how it is.
Whether it should be or not is another discussion.. but fact is that is how it is right now.
I think you’re supposed to say he’s a Dumbo.
“They just mandate progressive pricing, like Medicare: you pay more if you make more.”
Anyone who’s applied for ‘financial aid’ for their kids’ college gets a real taste of ‘progressive pricing’, if they ever consider that the ‘net tuition’ they’ll be paying is based on income.
I wonder if he knew he had a fever, in which case it was bad luck but not Disney world’s fault.
$15k to do Disney and then balking on a temp check. If you are that much of a mark, you need to take it and like it.
I empathize, but he’s doing it wrong.
Else wear?
That noise you hear is my grinding teeth.
And...if you don’t want to comply with the rules of a private business, don’t visit it.
“15K on Disney? Why? How?”
Well, Disney did raise ticket prices recently.
I live 30 minutes from there and have never been near the place.
I’m 30 minutes from NYC and haven’t been there in 20 years.
If a business has a requirement, either comply or don’t go.
i thought Florida finally lifted its oppressive dictatorial bullsheit “regulations”
hopefully this Nazi style incident is a fluke and ... hopefully a good lawyer will help this fellow sue the indivuduals who did this to him
in order to help stop future such incidents, those guility must be made to pay
“I haven’t seen the inside of a Disney park since 1990....But $15K seems like more...”
I was there four years ago and went through $10K for a week and that was before airfare to get my family to the Grand Floridian.
I can see $15K, easily.
Disney makes it very clear on its site and in its parks that you must wear a mask and agree to a temperature check to enter. Don’t like it? Don’t go. It’s not a necessity. You don’t have to support businesses you disagree with.
Now I'm not one of those worried by the COVID virus. I prefer not to wear a mask and only (grudingly) wear one when required in a public area. I have not taken the vaccine and don't plan to unless it is absolutely required to make a living or travel about (hope it doesn't come down to that).
But I have no problem having my temperature taken if it makes the Karens of the world feel okay. I'm pretty healthy and if I did have a fever, why I'd appreciate knowing about it.
This guy appears to have cost himself and his family a lot of needless money and aggravation.
My guess is some serious hotel or condo rental digs. You can blow big bucks on high end rentals during peak snowbird season.
