Today’s Cryptogram

IFSIQF GTS GSNW XCLLCDB ESGD

BFL IOCE VSNF LTOD IFSIQF

GTS GSNW XLODECDB JI. —SBEFD DOXT

TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: todayscryptogram
You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

   HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Well that took me way longer than it should have! I was focused on the 2nd and 3rd words but wasn't having much luck - then I realized that the first word was the key. It was smooth sailing after that.

Thanks for posting these nikos - I look forward to them every day !

Today’s Cryptogram is from The Arkansas Gazette.

TRY SOLVING THIS ONE LINE BY LINE OR EVEN WORD FOR WORD.
The very first word should be recognizable.

3 minutes good
2 minutes excellent
90 seconds superior

Actually faster, result includes time it takes to start and stop my stopwatch. Just typing, after the first word gives it away.

She only makes 71 cents for every dollar he makes.

I can’t make out a single word of what you wrote up there.

Takes a little practice. This one is particularly easy, actually. Use letter frequency as a starting point, and look for patterns. The most common letters in English are ETAOIN in that order.

Try yesterday’s. See post #7 above. Enter it in Hal’s and highlight the first word in yellow to get a head start. You can do it!

Surprisingly difficult. But the first word gives a good start, eventually…

F=E?

It’s just like high school math again.

Mr. Olsen is going to come along and whap me on the head with his yardstick.

Yes, that was a tough one... I was focused on the second and third words like you - I tried a bunch of three letter words but couldn’t come up with any that made sense out of the third word which shared two of the same letters.

I was so stumped that I came back here to read a few comments looking for a clue (first time I ever had to resort to that). I read your comment and that was just the clue I needed. I focused on the first word and - bingo!
