Army investigating missing rifle from DC National Guard

The Army is investigating a rifle that was possibly stolen from D.C. National Guard during a training event in Virginia last month, Army Criminal Investigation Command spokesperson Chris Grey confirmed Tuesday, according to Politico.

Two people familiar with the probe said the M4 rifle and a scope disappeared around March 11 while a quick reaction force that was created to protect the U.S. Capitol was training at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Command alerted D.C. National Guard of its examination Tuesday. Statements were collected on Thursday from those who were at the Fort A.P. Hill range at the time that the firearm went missing, one person familiar with the situation said. National Guard members who provided states filled out dozens of pages of questions on their whereabouts.

Guard members told Politico that an unaccounted-for rifle is a serious security risk, particularly amid the branch’s current mission securing the Capitol building.

National Guard leaders started interviewing service members stationed at the Capitol after the firearm was determined to have gone missing, but it was not resolved, prompting the more in-depth investigation from the Criminal Investigation Command.

Some dude is likely blasting his way thru many thousands of rounds of hard to get ammo?

Just hope its not BLM, MS -13 or ANTIFA.

Shouldn’t be too hard to spot.

Bad news for some people.

If this happened somewhere else, then why were these Soldiers released from that area.

I saw a unit locked down for missing three .45 rounds.

I was a member of the 25th Infantry from 1978 until 1981. They had the US Army’s record for most lost weapons.

My unit was “fighting” against a Marine unit. The Marines attacked another unit not involved in our training and a brand new Army private panicked and dropped his M16. A Marine stole it, hid it and returned later to get it. The police found the M16 about 6 months later during a raid on a drug house. Yes, it had been traded for drugs.

The amount of theft from the military is huge. Computers, weapons, ammo, money. For a long time, stolen ACOG and EOTECH optics were being sold all over the internet, as they were easy for people to slip in their pocket. With the current price of ammo, I bet the rate of theft is pretty high.

Of course, this is all petty theft, and pales in comparison to the theft by contractors.

They are worried about a single rifle when every gang banger has handguns?

Absolutely. The real threat of this weapon being missing is to someone's career.

Check Feinstein's and Schumer's offices. They like guns - for themselves.

Was Eric Holder in the vicinity? If so, I think I know where the M4 went.

My company was locked down for over a week because an a-hole tried to steal an AN/PVS-4 night sight.

I hear ya, it’s been 40+ years since I was in but I do remember the lockdowns if important equipment went missing, not fun, no one was allowed to go home, just stand down and wait.

Two possibilities-The Guard Soldier set the M4 down to get on his/her phone and tiktok followers, forgot about the rifle and walked away, then someone picked it up. OR a DC hood rat stole the M4.

They did recover the night sight, so in our case the lock down did work.
