T cells induced by COVID-19 infection respond to new virus variants -U.S. study

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A critical component of the immune system known as T cells that respond to fight infection from the original version of the novel coronavirus appear to also protect against three of the most concerning new virus variants, according to a U.S. laboratory study released on Tuesday.

Several recent studies have shown that certain variants of the novel coronavirus can undermine immune protection from antibodies and vaccines.

But antibodies - which block the coronavirus from attaching to human cells - may not tell the whole story, according to the study by researchers at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). T cells appear to play an important additionally protective role.

“Our data, as well as the results from other groups, shows that the T cell response to COVID-19 in individuals infected with the initial viral variants appears to fully recognize the major new variants identified in the UK, South Africa and Brazil,” said Andrew Redd of the NIAID and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine who led the study.

This could be HUGE news in our fight against this cursed thing, if true..

Wife and I just got our 2nd Pfizer shot on Tues. So far, so good aside from mildly sore arms that are gradually getting better..would be really nice if we didn’t have to worry so much about the Brazillian mutation which up till now was thought to only be ~50% or so protected against by Pfizer and Moderna.

That could be true, but my interpretation of the article is that they only studies people with previous Covid exposure, not those who've had the vaccine. Still, good news.

I think this is the article:
CD8+ T cell responses in COVID-19 convalescent individuals target conserved epitopes from multiple prominent SARS-CoV-2 circulating variants

Science.

State of Michigan says, “T-cell immunity? F*ck that. Wear your mask!”

The little ferret Fauchi and his bestie bud Bill Gates are knee deep in this.

This is azz covering on their part. But people will believe it because they need to feel they haven’t bee duped by the evil clowns.

That was my take as well - the natural T cells respond to the variants, not the vaccine antibodies - although it was not clear.

Until proven otherwise, it seems natural immunity is better than the vaccines.

I imagine “the science” will soon emphatically suggest natural immunity will only last a month or so in order to get compliance on the vaccine.

For my family, it wasn’t the just “the flu bruh,” it wasn’t even as bad as a 24 hour cold.

HUGE, also because masks are not needed after vaccinations.

I guess this means that those of us who have had the Chinese Virus, armed with T-Cell immunity, can get one of those darn passports.

The newest variant post dates even Brazil. Identified first in Calif. So apparently no study on that.

Also, these are suggestive investigations. They mean nothing without clinical trial statistics and those are not accumulated yet, and probably can’t be because we’re due for another variant post dating California’s

Largely, this article means nothing.

My wife and I also got our second Pfizer shot on Tuesday.

I was and still am fine, but by Tuesday evening she was running a low grade fever, and felt completely run down. She had a runny nose, and was totally exhausted. She slept most of the day yesterday. She woke up this morning and said it felt like it never happened. She's perfectly fine today.

“novel coronavirus”

As far as I can tell there is nothing particularly novel about this virus. However the mRNA experimental vaccines are novel. Calling it like it is, one should say something like this:

The Wuhan virus has been addressed by a novel, vaccine-like treatment by Moderna and Biontech (Pfizer).

I do hope that these recent biological experiments will not have significant side-effects. The topic of concern is “Pathogenic Priming.” Time will tell and I look forward to emerging information.

Yes, we should. Unfortunately, there's been no guidance from CDC on this point. Those of us who've had the infection are immune, whereas those who've gotten the vax are immunized. What's the difference?

Amen to that. I don't expect the clueless CDC to address this issue anytime soon. Too many dollars to be had yet by the Pharmaceuticals,
