Major League Baseball's Opening Day is Thursday and while box scores will once again light up across the country, one stat fans won't see on scorecards is how climate change has affected the game.
Over the last 50 years, the average temperature in cities with MLB teams has warmed 2.1 degrees Fahrenheit, according to findings published Wednesday by nonprofit news and science organization Climate Central. That figure fluctuates to as much as a 5.2-degree increase for the Toronto Blue Jays, and tenth of a degree of cooling in Oakland for the Athletics.
All 30 teams are set to take the field for Opening Day, the first 162-game season since 2019 after the coronavirus pandemic forced teams to play an abbreviated 60-game regular season.

And it has nothing to do with the angle of the sun in the northern hemisphere...
Let me see. These cities have all grown from x square miles of heat-absorbing building, concrete, and asphalt to even more square miles of heat-absorbing building, concrete, and asphalt over this period.
And the temperature has risen. Hmmn
We should be worried about the racist fonts in baseball. It is causing immediate damage.
Bingo!
Look at the Calendar. It is time for a joke.
Is it true this temperature rise affects people of The Dark Color more than whites?
It IS April Fools, after all.
ST. Louis, MO April 1, 1971:
High: 63F
Low: 36F
Average: 50.38F

High: 54F

So much for Global Warming.
The first pitch temperature in Cincinnati is forecast to be 39. Thank goodness for global warming. Imagine how cold it would be in southern Ohio without all those coal fired electric plants on the Ohio River. Don’t those plants promote global warming with acid rain or something, you know, the warming thing.
The only responsible solution is to ban professional sports.
They are pure entertainment and contribute nothing necessary to sustaining life.
It’s the responsible thing to do.
Exactly. Heat island effects. We live in such a stupid superstition based world of “scientific” propaganda.
Lunatics cultists .
We need to shut up these mentally ill Phony weather
nuts and there cult religion .
These knuckleheads will be wishing for global warming in the coming decades as we proceed through this solar minimum. The Mander Minimum was a time of poor and failed harvests.
I’m still waiting for someone to tell me why such a small overall rise in temperatures (if it’s actually true & not propagandized) is such a BAD thing.
Less snow = less salt/brine on roads, washing into waterways & verges.
More, new, arable land and pasture for crops & livestock (esp. in Canada).
Is there suddenly a “perfect” temperature that we must now maintain at all costs, never to go up (or down?) ever again.
Do I believe that climate “changes”? Yes! Do I believe it’s because of something that minuscule “mankind” has done? Nope!
And I can recall baseball opening days being delayed because it was too cold or even snowing!
Climate Change = Global Warming Denier
Don't worry, climate "researchers" - whose only real research seems to be in how to get more grant money while supporting power grabs by those funding said grants - have a way of compensating for this.
When looking at historical temperature data for urban areas there is an acknowledged heat-island effect due to population, industry, etc. that grows as the urban area grows. So they apply a compensation to the temperature data - similar to accounting for inflation when comparing prices across time.
Here's the gotcha, there are problems with this approach that a real scientist with integrity would make known, but which climate "researchers" almost never seem to acknowledge. I wonder why they are so reluctant to admit:
One, they have no control group. There is no urban area that has experienced population growth but no other influences on temperature. So they must attempt to infer the correlation factor(s) between population growth and temperature.
Two, they are not sure if it is a single-variable problem. It almost certainly is not. It is not just population, but industry, urban/suburban mix, public/private transportation, parks, waterways, local/regional geography etc. There is no one-size fits all "adjustment" to the data.
Three, the "adjustments" to the data are actually larger, often significantly larger, than the climate trends "discovered" in the data by the "researchers." Yes, that means with different fudge-factors for the correlations you can get the climate data to predict anything from heating to cooling. Hmm...
These (and many other reasons) are why I do not believe any climate "scientist" nor any reports coming out. They might as well be called what they really are: PR campaigns for who-ever sponsored the research.
You've swerved into an important point that I've missed. Liberals simply don't respond to logic. Their trust in liberalism is religious, not logical. They do respond to ridicule, though.
So, whenever they tell us we must believe "The Science", don't reply with logic, reply with mocking their superstition. It WILL have an effect.
The temperature readings have the urban heat sinks, heat generators has nothing to do with checking “climate change”.
In the dense and large urban areas where few people or offices had air conditioning decades ago, air conditioning has become ubiquitous, resulting in most interior spaces in such areas being cooled (transferring tons if indoor heat to the outside), and outdoor summer temps being hotter.
In older days in giant cities before air conditioning, summer might be vey hot, but it was uniformly hot, indoors and out. It was so not worse outdoors, the people, even ball players were glad to just be our in the fresh air. That was the era when large urban parks were so often built and the public thronged to them in the summer time. Noe they just escape to “indoors” where the air conditioning has transferred indoor heat to the outdoors. Now they just watch the suffering ball players on the TV in their air conditioned living rooms.
