DeSantis vows to ban 'completely unacceptable' vaccine passports over 'huge privacy implications'

Ron DeSantis has vowed to take executive action in Florida against 'completely unacceptable' plans for vaccine passports over privacy fears.

The governor slapped down President Joe Biden's potential scheme which would allow Americans to return to pre-pandemic activities like travel and shopping by showing proof they've been inoculated against COVID-19.

The Biden administration is working with private firms to develop the passes which would likely be available for free through smartphones, The Washington Post reported.

But DeSantis said the plans would have 'huge privacy implications' which would violate personal freedoms.

The Republican said at a press conference at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee on Monday: 'We're not supportive of that. I think it's something that people have certain freedoms and individual liberties to make decisions for themselves.

'It's completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.'

DeSantis, a Trump ally, is preparing to sign an executive order as soon as Tuesday barring the vaccine passports in Florida. He is also calling for the state legislature to pass a bill banning the idea permanently.

'It's completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine...

So much for private property rights in FL. Kind of surprised the governor’s saying businesses can’t control who uses their services.

PGA West is paying all employees a “stipend” who come forward with proof of vaccination. Either how generous, or how deceipful?

Even though I knew McConnell was dirty, as long as he was vigorously pushing through judicial nominees who were more likely than not to protect the Constitution and stop the hemorrhage of our rights via a leftist, active, judiciary, I was willing to look the other way.

For what that was worth.

Now, he and McCarthy fill me with disgust.

“Kind of surprised the governor’s saying businesses can’t control who uses their services.”

You mean like businesses are free to say certain people cannot use their establishment or the water fountain?? Or that social media should be free to exclude whomever they disagree with?? No, I do not want the infernal government from making me carry papers while not making people show proof to vote to prove they are whom they say they are.

Aren't children in Florida required to show proof of vaccine in order to enroll in school in Florida?

I’m impressed that he is showing a concern for civil liberties re: the vaccine passports.

Most GOPers don’t care and would be on the (bipartisan) gravy train regarding this absurd idea.

So I have to give Gov. DeSantis props.

In the end it will be a federal mandate that these businesses use these passports. And there will be a tax associated with it.

Government? No. But can DeSantis order airlines to allow people on without proof of vaccination? Or cruise ships? It's a slippery slope.

Get vaccination status protected by civil rights law like race is and you'll have a point.

“The Biden administration is working with private firms to develop the passes which would likely be available for free through smartphones...”

A note on an inert piece of paper issued by the respective states would suffice if they had honest intent. Anything more is attempt at regimentation.

He signed off on an law last week that removes any legal culpability for COVID-related suits against the government of Florida and private business. This appears to be an extension of that, and as a Floridian, I’m okay with it.

He should Double Down and draw the line in the sand by making it a Criminal Act to be in Possession of a COVID Passport of any kind.

Bake the cake. You already have little or no say over who may patronize your business.
