Is living like that worth it? As I age I am thinking of doing drugs and doing very bad life habit items. Do I want to live past 85?

Do I want to live past 85?

Depends on how old you are right now. A definite ‘no’ is a whole lot easier at say 50 than it is a 84!

My mom lived on her own in an apartment that required climbing stairs until one day at 99 1/2 she found she couldn’t get out of bed. The first day she refused an ambulance, the second day she reluctantly agreed. She never came back home and died a couple of months later in an assisted-living facility She most definitely wasn’t ready to check out, but her body was—and did.

No one knows for sure how old age will have its way with you. How long your family tends to live might give a hint, but of course there are no guarantees.

I figure 77 is a good number for me. At that age (which is still several decades off), I think I'll still be able to function, but I'll be looking at decrepitude coming up fast. That's about as far as I intend to go.

If you make it past 85 you’ll forget why you questioned doing it.

You might try this - my great Aunt lived to 103, and she was in her own apartment with a walker at 97. Her son lived nearby. I went to visit her there. She took off after dinner to do exercises - ‘it takes me longer these days.’

BUT - I went to clean her fridge; it was FULL, top to bottom, with 31 Flavors ice cream, Sarah Lee cakes, fudge, pies and cakes - you name it!!!

I suggested to her that I buy her some fruits and vegetables. She said, “I have been eating like this ALL my life. I am 97 and living alone.” Talk about words to live by.

I am right there with you on that thought.

My family life expectancy rarely makes it over 70 years old. As I am 58 now...I’ve been thinking of trying all those things I never did while younger.

With the projection for this country and only an estimated 12 years left and still feeling pretty good...why the heck not? LOL
