A children's graphic novel from the immensely popular "Captain Underpants" series will no longer be found in library and book store shelves after the publisher deemed it to contain "passive racism."
The book in question is 2010's "The Adventures of Ook and Gluk" by Dav Pilkey, who has apologized for the work saying it "contains harmful racial stereotypes" and is "wrong and harmful to my Asian readers."
The book follows a pair of friends who travel from 500,001 B.C. to 2222, where they meet a martial arts instructor who teaches them kung fu and they learn principles found in Chinese philosophy. However, its publisher Scholastic has decided to remove the book from its websites, stop processing orders for it and is seeking a return on all inventory.

“Cancel culture has jumped the shark.”
Nope. The mob whined, the author apologized, the book is canceled.
They are winning, and won’t stop until/unless they are met with real force.
They’re not called “Tighty WHITIES” for nothing!
What the heck is “passive racism”?
Master Po must be rolling his white eyes.
Sounds more like pedophilia.
Sounds like the author committed “cancel seppuku” on himself.
Most large publishing companies in the USA deserve to go out of business.
Good to see they are doing it to themselves.
Maybe Scholastic will next ban
—All works by the author including
Captain Underpants (implies there are
only two genders)
—Harry Potter—sold millions but surely
something to offend some
—Clifford the Big Red Dog—unfair
to dogs who are neither red nor
gigantic
I don’t read Captain Underpants so I know very little about it. I am a little wierded out by the underwear theme, kids in underwear? Eh no thanks. As far as Chinese philosophy, mentioning it and talking about it can’t be that harmful. The whole Tao thing, the teachings of Lao Tsu, who is also called Confucius by the actively racist British, are very interesting and important.
The leaf floats on top of a roiling stream without being disturbed. If happiness is in your destiny you need not be in a hurry. Go through life without damaging the world as you pass through it, like Kwai Chang walking on rice paper without tearing it. It is the empty space that makes a window useful. This is all very useful.
Making it racist to teach it using fictional characters does not help people learn. It probably isn’t even passively racist. The whole cancel culture troll mob hs way too much power. Get off of Twitter.
The thing is, the two main characters were best friends who are black and white.
You have learned much, Grasshopper.
Not being "anti-racist" enough.
Regards,
The new frontier.
From what I’ve heard Capt Underpants is
the altar ego of a mean school principal.
One boy hypnotizes him into believing
he’s a superhero and the man goes around
in “tighty whities” and a cape.
I think the author and publisher should be forced to give back every cent ever made off of it.
Pretty soon we’ll have to apologize for “non-existant racism”.
Not kidding.
And the race baiters can shove it. They WILL their come uppance. Guaranteed.
From 1984:
The largest section of the Records Department, far larger than the one on which Winston worked, consisted simply of persons whose duty it was to track down and collect all copies of books, newspapers, and other documents which had been superseded and were due for destruction.
Have they held a book burning yet?
