The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were 90% effective at preventing Covid-19 infections in real world conditions in a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Monday. The study of 3,950 healthcare workers, first responders and other essential workers found that the risk of infection fell by 90% two weeks after participants got their second vaccine shot. The risk dropped by 80% two or more weeks after the first shot. The study was conducted between December 2020 and March 2021 and did not distinguish between the effectiveness of each vaccine. Most infections were identified before symptoms arose. Most infected people in the study developed symptoms, but 10.7% did not. “The study demonstrates that these two mRNA vaccines can reduce the risk of all SARS-CoV-2 infections, not just symptomatic infections,” the CDC said.

We also learned that the majority of people need a big dose of Covid in order to get sick.
The Trump vaccine timeline is saving tens if not hundreds of thousands of deaths.
Bit confused here....”the risk of infection fell by 90% two weeks after participants got their second vaccine shot. The risk dropped by 80% two or more weeks after the first shot.”
Does the risk keep going back up as time passes? Or is it just poor wording?
Are there actual raw numbers (not percentages) in this study? I had to skim this, sorry.
Example: If the 9 non-vax people out of 4,000 got a sneeze, and 1 vax person got a sneeze, they count that as 89% effective (1 divided by 9). That would be statistically meaningless.

Two weeks after the first shot the risk of getting Covid had declined by 80%. By two weeks after the second the risk had declined further and was now 90% lower than the unvaccinated.
I have read a lot about this issue of 1st shot versus the 2nd shot. What it means is even after just 1 shot 80% immunity is achieved. The 2nd shot by the way is a replica of 1st shot. In my case it was 1/2 cc of Moderna vaccine. It is mainly intended as a booster shot. After the 1st shot I had very few side effects. Mainly feeling a bit tired on next day. After the 2nd shot, I had more noticeable side effect such as feeling like a cold was coming on, minor body aches and feeling feverish. I measured my body temp with a thermometer but there was no fever all day. On 3rd day after shot all side effects had disappeared.
My OWN OPINION is that, that with the 2nd shot, the body’s 80% immune system reacts to the 2nd shot giving more pronounced side effects, that means the first shot was effective and not a placebo.
Nobody knows that for sure because there is just not enough history yet. Keep in mind the influenza vaccine is only 50-60% effective due to virus mutations and it’s effectiveness barely lasts 1 year. Some other vaccines such the pneumonia vaccine is advised to be repeated (in my case) every 10 years. I will take any vaccine which reduces my chance of ending up in isolation wing of hospital sealed inside a plastic tent, no one allowed to visit you or comfort you, running high fever, connected to a ventilator.
Interesting because studies have demonstrated 99.997% of the time Your own body is more effective than Moderna, Astra Zeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson, etc....
I look at vaccine as insurance. I buy it to help avoid catastrophe. I avoid getting the house burned down by not smoking, avoid storing flammable materials, and checking electrical systems frequently. And I make sure the side walk in front of my house is clean. But I still go out and buy house insurance.
You are wrong. Each of those patients was infected in your response. The vaccine prevents 90% of those wild type infections from ever occurring. Additionally. They prevent 100% of deaths.
Tell the truth.
Do we have to wear masks after we get the vaccine and can I then not have to socially distance?
After you buy house insurance, is it smart to throw burning cigarette butts on flammable material? Obviously not. After you get your yearly flu shot, is it smart to go out in cold weather without a shirt? Obviously not.
So it is always prudent to do the best you can to prevent getting exposed to any virus. Most masks do not protect you from virus cells coming in. So it is prudent to keep social distance because infected people do not wear a sign on their head. Wearing a mask protects others from you in case you sneeze or cough or talk loud, and therefore it is a sign of respect for your fellow Americans.
Yes, I will always tell the truth where you attempt of obfuscate it. I will always call you out when you tell lies to advance your agenda on this issue. Your intentional comparison of 90% elimination of transmission and your (grossly inflated) survivability number is a slight of hand that is plain dishonest. Why dont you address that? Oh wait, you can’t for you can only reach for general obscene responses fit for the DU.
And your rejoinder is one for the ages. Perhaps you could come up with something more substantial in terms of actually raising the level of the discussion,
90% effective for a virus that has a >99.95++ survival rate.
But meanwhile, not FDA tested or cleared.
We’re any of these subjects intentionally exposed to a viral Load of Covid 19 after the shot?
Did any of them develop actual Covid 19 antibodies?
Did they continue to wear masks and social distance?
The only way to confirm the effectiveness is to shove these people naked into a Covid ward. I don’t believe that has been done.
Have you tried HCQ (or quercetin) zinc and vitamin D?
Not HCQ, but do take D & Zinc, which I can get free from doctor’s office.
I feel pretty safe in my town, infection rates are low, and I avoid all crowded places. I also drink Tonic water with Quinine. Now after getting inoculated with vaccine I am feeling even more safe.
