The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has rebuffed calls by the cruise industry to restart operations from U.S. ports, instead keeping current prohibitions in place through the summer travel season.
Provided by The Motley Fool CDC Keeps Cruise Restrictions in Place Until Nov. 1 The CDC said Wednesday that restrictions placed on the cruise lines last year to counter the spread of the pandemic will remain in effect until Nov. 1. The statement comes just hours after a trade group representing the cruise industry called on the CDC to lift the restrictions and allow for the planning of a phased resumption of operations from U.S. ports beginning in July.

Look now for a lot of Cruise Line maneuvering to get back on track outside this country. -Tom
More Losing!
Where do they get Nov 1 as a target date?
Yep, part of the Deep State CDC’s informal mission is to destroy American businesses and wealth. They’re successfully driving these businesses and associated jobs overseas!
Big Cruise News here.-Tom
I agree, or maybe (hopefully) take it to court.
Regardless of what one thinks of vaccines, and assuming they work as advertised, there is absolutely NO VIRUS RISK to allowing vaccinated persons on to cruise lines. It’s starting to really look like political punishment to Florida.
CDC does not like Florida..er..Gov DeSantis!
Exactly..who is pushing vaccines? CDC!!
Who is not allowing vaccinated cruisers? CDC!!!
This is so transparent...the lefties are afraid of DeSantis. Because he is as fearless as Trump, as pro-Business as Trump, and as pro-MAGA as Trump, and even better he is smoother than Nuevo-politician Trump.
“More Jobs Lost!
More Losing!”
I was thinking that if the Biden Group has no problem with stopping the Keystone pipe line, and putting thousands of Americans out of work, that they would not have a problem in screwing up cruising in this country and putting more Americans out of work.

The CDC doesn’t have ANY authority.
Hundreds of thousands of lost US Jobs means nothing to these bastards this is a political shot taken at DeSantis and part of the effort to prevent any return normalcy. Meanwhile the CDC says nothing about the infected hordes pouring over the boarder.
Time for the cruise lines to dust off their lawyers. I’ve heard suggestions these regulations aren’t in the purview of the CDC. I don’t know, I’m not a lawyer. In my experience I’ve been aware of Coast Guard authority and inspections. They may well bend to the CDC, or not. I don’t know. If the Big Guy thinks this will earn him votes in FL, he’s dreaming. I don’t know how well the cruise lines can arrange alternate ports of departure, but I’m sure they’re looking. And though air fares are a problem, I suspect the airlines will be happy to transport people at competitive fares. Heck, though I don’t cruise in Europe, I’ve paid as much, within $100-$200, to fly to Phoenix or Miami as western Europe. Time is a factor, but there are Caribbean and Mexican ports. Puerto Rico or St Thomas, but they’re amongst the unfriendly US ports. I’d be curious to see the CDC rationale. Other than keeping the nation shut down. At this point, unfortunately, the industry has to look to other nations. I acknowledge I mostly use US lines, but no reason they can’t do an African cruise out of Lisbon or Barcelona.
Or,they relocate home ports to Cozumel,Nassau, Veracruz, Bermuda,St Thomas and others. Tell the CDC to shove it and work with airlines for affordable flights.
You’re talking about the Carribean. It’ll work for the airlines. No St Thomas, that’s the US. Capacity may be an issue in those ports for awhile, but capacity can be built. Supply chain may be an issue, but that can be dealt with. Supplies can be loaded en route as capacity builds up. And, particularly with airline cooperation, Asian and European destinations can be ramped up. Not suggesting they’re not important already. The good thing for the US, at least Biden’s US, once these facilities are established, they won’t be abandoning them to return to Miami. To me Carribean cruises are just relaxing in the sun. I’d be happy to leave from various islands. I’ve spent a day or two early in Florida already.
As to ports, Bermuda is a tad far, though workable. Veracruz, interesting, as I noted on another thread no reason not to dock at commercial facilities with local transportation. Which brings in all the Central American ports. Cartagena would be a great spot. Not suggesting the CDC or Biden administration cares if a percentage of the industry leaves the US. Don’t know who owns the debt on the new port in Miami, that’s their problem I guess. This makes little sense, I can’t help but think it’s political.
“The CDC doesn’t have ANY authority.”
Maybe not via the law, but cruise ships will be on their own for liability if the virus breaks out. In other words, if CDC actually APPROVED cruises, then if the virus did, somehow, breakout on the boat, the cruise lines could simply point to the ‘experts’, the CDC, who said it was safe.
Cozumel just built an expanded cruise port and offered it as a home port. Veracruz is a really pretty city.
I get your point.

...”The cruise industry has adopted a high bar for resumption around the world with a multi-layered set of policies that is intended to be revised as conditions change,” Kelly Craighead, president of the Cruise Lines International Association, said in a statement released prior to the CDC’s announcement. “Cruise lines should be treated the same as other travel, tourism, hospitality, and entertainment sectors.”
On its website, the CDC says that cruise passengers “are at increased risk of person-to-person spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and outbreaks of COVID-19 have been reported on cruise ships.”
