This morning I was watching the news about the reports of unidentified flying objects over military bases and it got me thinking. We have a two story home and I have been having chest pains after climbing the stairs, unlike someone we know who fell three times trying to buy a stairway to heaven, we decided to buy a stair lift. We ordered one but it has not arrived yet.
When I was about to marry, my mother refused to help me to buy my own wedding dress, so I was married wearing a borrowed dress. Later, my sweet husband told me to buy one on our anniversary. I found a white silk dress with pouf sleeves and lots of beaded embroidery. Marrying my husband was God's hand of providence taking me out of an abusive home and giving me whole new world of freedom and love. My husband read to me from the Song of Solomon; “come away with me my love, the winter is over, and the singing of turtle doves is heard in our land”.
I have a mannequin, a dummy dress makers' form, up stairs. This morning I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to display my wedding dress on the form, but I did not feel safe about climbing the stairs. My husband offered to get the dress. I said “you mean you will try it on for me”? He said “you won't get me in a wedding dress”. He is very traditionally male, “No” I said, “on the other dummy!” That wasn't very nice but I couldn't resist teasing him,. He then offered to give me a piggy-back ride up the stairs. I said then we would be the next unidentified flying objects near a military base if we slipped and fell!
My husband offered to bring the dress form and the dress downstairs so I could arrange it and then he would take it back upstairs. He was helping me get the long train over the form and while he trying to do the small buttons on the neck, he commented how hard the buttons were to do. I think it was part of the old-time tradition of having small buttons on the back of a wedding dress was so the groom would not be in a hurry, and would undress his bride with love and care.
With the signs of the times being what they are, maybe the unidentified flying objects that can move in unknown patterns are angels getting ready to carry the souls of the saved children of God into the air. Jesus told us a parable about being prepared. He admonished us “not be like the virgins who did not have enough oil to meet the groom who were then denied entry to the wedding feast because they had to leave to buy more oil. At the marriage feast of Christ, the body of believers are all called the bride of Christ since we will be new creations in body, soul and spirit; this marriage is the joining of our being to our Lord and Savior and we will see and know fully the love of Jesus.
