You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

   HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

About a minute.
1st word by letter pattern, which leads to 2nd word, then 3rd word by grammar, off to the races.

Anyone else using an iPhone? On mine, I can fairly easily read the pale yellow text without selecting it with the curser - and selecting it puts a blue tint over it, which if anything, actually makes it less readable.

I tried it both with iPhones built in Safari browser and with Mozilla Firefox browser... and at various brightness settings.

I’m 69 and my vision has always needed correction for distances.

Not trying to cast aspersions at a clever idea that seems to work for a lot of people... just curious how circumstantial the functionality is.

Good point. I used yellow because it's easier to find what to highlight. How does white work? Could you please try the selection below and let me know?

Solution to previous puzzle is in white text below, (select the text below with your cursor to read):

WEAR GRATITUDE LIKE A CLOAK AND IT WILL FEED EVERY CORNER OF YOUR LIFE. —RUMI

END OF SOLUTION

Sorry, the white doesn’t show up at all for me, with or without the highlight..

Did you select all of the text between START SOLUTION and STOP SOLUTION?

I suspect that when you select text the text and background are "XOR"ed identically, so there is no contrast. What is the background color on your iPhone?

How does this work?(A whiter shade of pale)

START OF SOLUTION

WEAR GRATITUDE LIKE A CLOAK AND IT WILL FEED EVERY CORNER OF YOUR LIFE. —RUMI

END OF SOLUTION

I’m sure I selected the right area.
The background on my iPhone is the default white.
I experimented with a few different browsers and brightness settings.

Later, I’ll try it on my HP desktop, which runs Windows.

I would not be the least bit surprised if has to do with Apple technology - they always have to go everything different than everyone else. For example, the iPhone won’t let me use that cool “screen mirroring” technology where whatever is happening on your mobile phone can be mirrored on your smart tv or ROKU via wifi.

My kids that have androids can all do it, but Apple only lets you do it or you buy an Apple TV. There’s a million examples of that - I only have an Apple iPhone because my wife does.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to make a big deal out of this - I was just curious..

Besides, I don’t read the comments until I’ve already solved the cryptogram, so it isn’t a problem for me either way.

If you come up with any ideas that I can try let me know. Otherwise, I will continue with the current approach. It was Nikos who started it.
