Why the anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin evokes same debate as Hydroxychloroquine for treating COVID-19 patients

The European Medicines Agency (EMA), which regulates drugs in the EU, on March 22 decided not to recommend the use of anti-parasitic drug Ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment.

Ivermectin is used in treating Malaria.

However, the EU drug regulator allowed the use of Ivermectin in well-designed clinical trials.

The Europe drug regulator decision comes following the review of all the evidence from laboratory studies, observational studies, clinical trials and meta-analyses.

In February this year, the US National Institute of Health (NIH), after a review of evidence said that there was insufficient data to recommend either for or against the use of Ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19.

It further said results from "adequately powered, well-designed, and well-conducted clinical trials are needed to provide more specific, evidence-based guidance on the role of Ivermectin in the treatment of COVID-19."

Ivermectin, the anti-parasitic drug has been widely used in India and many other countries as off-label medication to treat mild and moderate COVID-19 patients, despite limited evidence of its efficacy.

While Ivermectin is not included in the COVID-19 Clinical Management Protocol, that's not stopping physicians and hospitals from using it. For instance, West Bengal government's COVID-19 protocol released on September 25, 2020, allows the use of Ivermectin and doxycycline combination for treating mild-moderate COVID-19.

The West Bengal government asks physicians to share clinical records and data regarding the use of Ivermectin with the state, as clinical trials of the drug are going on.

How did Ivermectin shoot to fame?

Ivermectin, which is an age old drug used for parasitic worm infestations like head lice, has shot to limelight during the COVID-19, as in-vitro studies suggest that the drug in certain doses can kill SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Ivermectin is known to have broad spectrum antiviral properties. Broad spectrum means it can kill or block a host of viruses.

William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura have jointly won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015 for discovering Ivermectin.

Medical experts divided

Dr. Rahul Pandit, Director of Director-Critical Care, Fortis Hospitals Mumbai says he has never used Ivermectin to treat COVID-19 patients.

"There is little scientific evidence that this drug works against COVID-19, like Hydroxychloroquine it gained prominence for having antiviral properties," Pandit said.

Another doctor who treated COVID-19 patients but didn't want to be named said he found Ivermectin along with doxycycline beneficial to patients as "it cleared virus much faster."

To be sure, the results from clinical trials are mixed. Some clinical studies showed no benefits or worsening of disease after Ivermectin use, while others reported shorter time to resolution of disease, greater reduction in inflammatory markers, and lower mortality rates in patients who received it than in patients who received comparator drugs or placebo.

The debate on Ivermectin is not settled yet.

The US-based Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC), that counts some of the top critical care specialists as its members, said 16 randomised controlled trials (totaling over 2,500 patients), the majority have reported a statistically significant reduction in transmission or disease progression or mortality.

"Further, a meta-analysis recently performed by an independent research consortium calculated the chances that Ivermectin is ineffective in COVID-19 to be 1 in 67 million. The FLCCC Alliance, based on the totality of the existing evidence, supports recommendation for the use of Ivermectin in both the prophylaxis and treatment of all phases of COVID-19," FLCCC said early this year.

If an effective therapy exists for a disease, the CDC may NOT issue and emergency use authorization for experimental vaccines.

That is why HCQ and Invermectin are so viciously attacked.

Seems to me, those are the reasons FOR approving it for Covid-19 treatment.

Then all these new vaccines couldn't be used because they're only approved on an emergency basis.

It seems like Bill Gates could get Sunday removed from the week on an emergency basis, and most idiots would go along with it.

Objective:Health: Ivermectin: The Suppressed Miracle Drug for Covid-19

As if it were a replay of the fiasco that went on with hydroxychloroquine, the establishment media, social media and governments have been collectively censoring information about a drug shown to be highly effective against Covid-19: Ivermectin.

The studies on the drug are nothing short of astounding - more effective than any drug or intervention previously studied. Yet YouTube felt justified in banning videos of congress testimony about the drug, Twitter has blocked links to a peer-reviewed medical journal that had the audacity to publish a study on the drug and the corporate media have been full of articles about the ‘dangers’ of this drug - despite the fact that it’s been approved by the FDA (unlike Covid vaccines) and has been used safely for the last 5 decades.

I am wondering if this will help all those people who have already taken the shot(s)?

That is pretty messed up if you had the covid and survived it and then got then shot and then got the covid again.

Because it works and doesn’t bring in a load of money for big pharma or give the government an excuse to both control us and experiment on us.

With effective treatments, there’s no need for a questionable at best, “vaccine”.

It further said results from "adequately powered, well-designed, and well-conducted clinical trials are needed to provide more specific, evidence-based guidance on the role of Ivermectin in the treatment of COVID-19."

It’d be nice if they applied the same criteria to their experimental so-called vaccine.

They are willing to let people be injected with something that doesn’t mean the rigorous standards they apply to known safe medications.

So much wrong with your complete lack of biology. Treatments require a sick person which also means transmission of the virus and that sick person can then for a time pass it on. The actual math is the reproduction rate or R0 which while above one the virus grows in numbers. All three of the current vaccines prevent sickness from even happening Pfizer at the 96% level better than the vaccine that wiped smallpox off the planet at 95%. There is zero valid.scientific evidence that HQZ nor invermectin can prevent a person from replicating the virus in the lungs, nose and mouth as is detectable by PCR testing. Pfizer has data that shows they can keep that PCR negative 96% of the time and that means transmission from that person is impossible they don’t have active virus to shed.

Oh and the vaccines have proven death rate drops in the 98% range that’s compounded on top of the existing low death rates not in addition to it. So a high risk person with a 3% CFR drops by 98.9% that’s HUGE difference. Of 600,000+ people in the Israeli study under 30 needed hospital that’s absolutely amazing effectiveness world changing effectiveness.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dw.com/en/vaccine-prevents-989-of-covid-19-deaths-israel/a-56638291

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/fauci-hails-israel-s-vaccine-rollout-as-hmo-reports-95-percent-effectiveness-1.9547554

Your folk cure can’t even attempt to touch real world documented numbers like these.

According to the data, out of 620,000 who received their second COVID vaccine, only 608 contracted the virus. Most of the fully vaccinated COVID patients, Maccabi said, suffered from light symptoms only, or were asymptomatic. Of the 608, 21 were hospitalized, and of those, seven had severe symptoms, three displayed moderate symptoms, and 11 had light symptoms.

Ivermectin is used in treating Malaria.

No it's not. Although the article is interesting overall, this part is simply wrong. Ivermectin is only in the beginning research phase of being looked at as a possible treatment for malaria (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivermectin#Tropical_diseases). Hydroxychloroquine is the malaria drug that is being used as an anti-viral against Wuhan-SARS2, not Ivermectin. That said, Ivermectin does appear to have great potential for use in fighting this pandemic.

I happen to be a PhD level scientist working and researching in a few disciplines so the method is second nature to me. Pfizer has good data that’s why I took their dose they have the data to make me want that high level of immunity to a crappy way to die. I have been face to face with two people who died of Covid in a full body Tvek suit and respirator once you see it up close you won’t think it’s a hoax or conspiracy anymore. Nope I’ll gladly take the 95% immunity add that to my existing yellow card that I use to get in and out of the Democratic Republic of Congo and call it a day.

“I’m vastly more conservative”

Labeling conservatives “lunatics” is not conservative.

Every Democrat in the TX state house is staunchly pro-vax. It it the conservative Republicans who are for medical freedom and choice. Same is true at the federal level. And it is the Republican conservative base (about 50%), all lunatics according to you, who reject the shots.

HCQ and ivermectin were viciously attacked way before the vaccine existed.

What are the statistics ?

Not, not when you broad brush someone who doesn’t blindly trust the government and push for human experimentation with a so-called vaccine as an “anti-vaxxer”.

Expressing reservations with good reason does not mean someone is against ALL vaccines.

You all big pharma shills are the ones who have decided who’s an anti-vaxxer or not. It certainly isn’t based on what a person has posted.

Stop the liberal smear tactics of trying to destroy the message by discrediting the messenger and you won’t be called a liberal troll.

Anyone who trusts the government is an idiot.

Politicians lie to us all the time.

I find it ironic that people trust for their health the same government that can’t run the post office, the DMV, or an honest election.
