A little early in the season for Cape Cod white shark stuff, but it looks like this summer there is going to be action at sea and ashore here in Mass.

I personally know some of the individuals involved so I won't make any comments specifically on this article.

Just figured the article might be of some interest to Freepers who are interested in white sharks.-Tom

Chief Brody had something to say about those sharks at Amity Island. Well, one shark in particular.

There is so much we can learn from sharks.

Their research on batteries is astonishing.

Just relocate them to the Rio Grande...

I think that would seriously upset the ecosystem of the oceans, despite the ‘good’ that you think it might do.

There’s enough killing going on along the border already. The cartels have their own ‘sharks’.

It’s good that sharks are doing research on batteries.

It’s more likely that the cetaceans are doing research.

I grew up on the cape... lived there until I was 19. Is it really true that it’s unsafe to swim in the ocean now? I learned to swim in the North Atlantic. Nobody was afraid of great white attacks in the 70’s and 80’s even after Jaws came out.

This story would make an entertaining shark week episode.

Thanks, Tom! It’s an interesting article and I’m interested in GWs, but chumming near busy beaches and hooking I’m not so crazy about (seen some sharks tore up with that process). Tom, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this since you do know folks involved — call me lazy, but I like the benefit of other peoples’ knowledge. ;)

The Seal population in Mass. has exploded from a dozen so years ago to approx 50,000 statewide. They are protected by the Federal Govt.

The white sharks feed on seals and Cape Cod now has tens of thousands of SEALS that the white sharks target for a meal.

Spotter pilots flying close to shore along the easterly side of the Cape see 10 or more white sharks a day during the summer.

I would say it is unsafe to swim in those beaches during the summer , from Chatham to Provincetown especially.

This white shark problem is spreading throughout all Mass. waters and coastal New England.-Tom

Any thoughts on the accusation that OCEARCH’s methods are not good for the sharks? I know that in Delaware, you are not allowed to take a shark out of the water while surf fishing. Their internal organs can be crushed when hoisted up on OCEARCH’s lift mechanism?

Any call to cull the seals? Seems like as long as you have the prey, you will have the predators. As a surfer I am not excited to see more and more seals on my beach every winter. Stay up in New England!

Thanks for posting it, and I won’t ask you to comment on it.

That said, God help me, I have nearly come to the knee-jerk conclusion that if the State of Massachusetts is against something, I have to be for it.

The Massachusetts state government is so Leftist, so corrupt, and so venal, that I find it hard to come across any policy of their opponents that I will not embrace.

Yes. To me, it is that bad.

I took this picture maybe four years ago from a small plane my wife and I hired to give us a low altitude tour of Cape Cod, this was near Chatham:

The picture didn't do justice to what I saw. I have spent a good deal of time on Cape Cod, and had no idea the seal population was so bloated and huge.

Not like that.

It seemed like miles of deserted beach that were full of seals 10 deep, not just this one little frame I took.

I have no doubt. Those sharks are going to go where they can eat lots of seals.

I could be wrong, but I had heard that both the Seals and the Sharks are protected species...both of them.

I presume that to untie the environmental Gordian Knot that is environmental regulation and get approval to cull the seals, is...not going to happen. Not in this state.

OCEARCH’s staff is lucky that the Mass. Marxists don’t burn their boats and then them at the stake. It’s an old Massachusetts solution to people they don’t like.
