I grew up on the cape... lived there until I was 19. Is it really true that it’s unsafe to swim in the ocean now? I learned to swim in the North Atlantic. Nobody was afraid of great white attacks in the 70’s and 80’s even after Jaws came out.

The Seal population in Mass. has exploded from a dozen so years ago to approx 50,000 statewide. They are protected by the Federal Govt.

The white sharks feed on seals and Cape Cod now has tens of thousands of SEALS that the white sharks target for a meal.

Spotter pilots flying close to shore along the easterly side of the Cape see 10 or more white sharks a day during the summer.

I would say it is unsafe to swim in those beaches during the summer , from Chatham to Provincetown especially.

This white shark problem is spreading throughout all Mass. waters and coastal New England.-Tom

The issue now is that the seals are spreading out throughout the Gulf of Maine now. Not just harbor seals but the bigger grey seals too. As the seals move north, the big sharks follow.

The only death last year was north of Boothbay, ME. This is where the water is much colder than the southern side of Cape Cod.
