INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (KXAN) — Abilene Christian upset the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday night, sending Shaka Smart and the Big 12 Tournament champions to an early postseason exit.
Abilene Christian sent a shockwave through the state of Texas with the upset of the Longhorns in their second tournament appearance. The Wildcats only became a Division I basketball program in 2013.
ACU’s Joe Pleasant, a 58.8% free throw shooter this season, hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds to deliver the massive 53-52 upset over the Longhorns. Brock Cunningham’s last-second, inbound heave resulted in Texas’ 23rd turnover of the night to end the game.
The 23 turnovers is the most for Texas basketball in eight years, according to CBS Sports.
This is the 22nd time in the modern era of the NCAA Tournament that the No. 14 seed has upset a No. 3 seed.

I think UCLA will beat Abilene Christian on Monday...
By the way, Virginia lost to Ohio...That was an upset...
Gonzaga won...Not a close game...
Ike was from Kansas. Patton made a quip about the British conquering Kansas or some such thing when he was peeved about Eisenhower favoring Montgomery’s plans. That’s how I remember that little bit of trivia.
Most years a 14 beats a 3.
Illinois is about to go down at the hands of Loyola. March madness indeed !!
Year of the upsets. UNT over Purdue, Ohio State goes down, etc.
Down goes 1. Illinios, who many had winning the whole thing. That’s why 5he Turnament is so great, you can’t have ONE bad game.
Eisenhower was born in Sherman Texas. He was not native to Kansas.
#1 Illinois just went down. Now if the Zags are out it shows exactly how accurate these mediots are.
UConn and University of Hartford both lost in the first round... UHart went up against Baylor and UConn lost to Maryland. Oh well, it’s NASCAR season...
Just remember the college sports is all 18 to 22-year-olds
The biggest veterans have only been playing for years and then they move on
Basketball being such a funny game, where the ball either goes in or it doesn’t - is also a very quirky and unusual sport
The bottom line is that’s what makes the men’s basketball tournament so exciting and so interesting is that it is absolutely true that there will always be an end Cinderella story and anybody can beat anybody any day anytime
Congrats to Loyola and Abeljne and Oral Roberts !
All schools of JESUS CHRIST !!
Big Ten is struggling.
They haven’t been forced to remove that “Christian” word in their name?
I’m shocked.
“Eisenhower was born in Sherman Texas. He was not native to Kansas.”
There you go. I’m slowly learning to read on down before jumping in.
Heck, I thought he was born in Dennison......
He was.
That’s what I thought.....but with one ‘n”...LOL
The Zags were trailing 11-10 with 12:45 left in the first half. The Zags put on a 33-12 finish to the first half.
My favorite stat of the night was 27 assists on 34 made baskets. All 15 players on the roster saw PT last night.
Good gravy! Is Dominion Voting Systems somehow involved in these games?!? :-D
Did any Texas players kneel?
Even bigger, Loyola-Chicago and Sister Jean just bounced Illinois - the Big Ten champs and a Number 1 seed - out of the tournament.
