Canadian Conservative party votes not to recognize climate crisis as real

Canada’s main opposition Conservative Party members have voted down a proposal to recognize the climate crisis as real, in a blow to their new leader’s efforts to embrace environmentally friendly policies before a likely federal election this year.

The rejected motion included the willingness to act against climate risks and to make highly polluting businesses take more responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

On Friday, the Conservative leader, Erin O’Toole, urged party members to rally around an ambitious climate agenda, in order to avoid a defeat at the hands of Liberals.

He asked members to be open to new ideas if they were serious about toppling the Liberals in the next election, even if that went against the party’s conventional thinking.

He did not want Conservative candidates to be branded as “climate change deniers”, he said.

On Saturday, Conservative delegates rejected the policy shift by 54% to 46%.

Climate change was a polarizing issue in the last election campaign. While Justin Trudeau stresses that the environment is a priority, Canada has failed to meet any of its climate pledges amid resistance from politicians who say the targets threaten the oil industry.

Because the carbon tax and other related things are aimed at dealing with Alberta’s wealth and power against the corrupt Laurentian (Quebec and Ontario) interests.

The new “Conservative Party” leader Erin O’Toole is a politically correct kind of guy by US standards.

At least the grassroots aren’t ready to drink all of his Kood-Aid.

Although this is probably a good thing, the irony is breathtaking.

There people voted on which "scientific opinions" they should accept.

Many, if not most "Scientists" of today have abandoned the scientific method. No wonder lay people are confused. Worse, politicians are shaping policy by what amounts to a new religion.

Science is different from other types of information because scientists follow rigorous methods to learn about the world. A scientific idea must be testable and falsifiable. Ideas that are not supported by observations and data are revised or thrown out. The distinction between science and other ways of understanding the world is important because scientific information has been obtained with much more rigor than ideas that are the result of opinion, gut feelings, or faith. Scientists use the scientific method to answer questions about the natural world. The scientific method is not linear but takes on this basic structure: Ask a question, do background research, propose a hypothesis, test the hypothesis using data from observations and experiments, continue testing the hypothesis if it holds up or find a new hypothesis if it does not, eventually create a theory. A theory is an explanation of a complicated set of phenomena that fits virtually all of the available data.

There is no way that man-made climate change is a scientific theory.

Climate change is real (look at the historic and pre-historic record). It’s man-made climate change that is not real and government directed mandates will not affect at all natural climate change. But it will make major changes to our current lifestyles and put us under their control which is their ultimate goal.

Good for them, it is NOT real.
CO2 has nothing to do with temperature.
The “greenhouse gas theory” is all hot air.
The Sun is the determinant factor of the temperature of earth.

This “crisis” started as a lie that we were all about to freeze to death due to Peak Oil. When that didn’t pan out the lie was changed to everyone is going to die because it’s going to get too hot because we didn’t have Peak Oil after all and use too much “fossil” energy to make our lives better.

It’s all BS with one goal. To kill the energy business which has improved the lives of everyone and saved the lives of millions.

The funny part is, oil and gas are natural and organic. And about 30% of their use is non-fuel in nature. But enviros don’t want to get rid of clothing, cell phones, boats, kayaks, camping equipment, packaging and the thousands of other products made using oil.

It’s the use of oil and gas that gives people freedom, choices and better lives that drives them crazy.

I really wish that people would discriminate between “man-made climate change” and “climate change”. The climate has changed quite a bit in the 6500 years of organized human civilization. There’s a lot of evidence of it right in the Bible. It happens without human intervention and there’s probably nothing constructive we can “do” about it other than to adapt to it.

Now, how much of the ongoing “climate change” is caused by human activity? Certainly, there is some, but the effect is much smaller than the alarmists tout.

Pollution and waste is BAD. I can’t believe that true conservatives would disagree with that. But extreme, whip-saw measures that are being pushed, really designed to promote a totalitarian, reduced, and generally miserable existence (except for “the few”), are not acceptable solutions.

If there is global warming, Canada would only benefit!
They need some warmer weather. It is really freezing out there!
Co2 in atmosphere is a life giving gas, feeding our plants.
The rise of the oceans by a foot in 2150 will not hurt anybody.

Agreed. As what I mentioned in my above post, a lot of what the Liberals and NDP are doing for environmental policy is to far more serve the Laurentian elites’ interests against the West and Prairies’ wealth and success.

When he first campaigned for Prime Minister, Trudeau promised First Nations people in an area of BC to halt construction of a hydroelectric dam because of it’s potential detrimental impact to their lands. However, not long after he won that majority, construction on the project resumed.

Yep, gearing up to overcome climate change might accomplish a few things, but actually changing to a more favorable climate won’t be one of them. Yet, certain people keep trying to do this without disclosing their real motives. Someone else is already in charge of the climate, no matter how much you may either agree or disagree with that.

Conservative Party leader O’Toole is a fraud and an idiot. He stuck his neck out prior to the vote by declaring the Party accepted man-made client change was real, and was repudiated. Rule 1 of leadership: you don’t put forward a resolution at a convention unless you know you have the votes.

He was elected as leader on the pretence that he was an actual conservative, and immediately turned left on both social issues and climate fraud. He’s up against the most inept, corrupt leader our country has had since Trudeau’s father was Prime Minister, and O’Toole is going to throw it all away by moving to the mushy middle. Loser.
