A crystal ball is being blamed for starting a fire that caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to a Wisconsin home on Monday, authorities said.
The homeowner in Delton called 911 at around 4:17 p.m. after noticing heavy smoke billowing throughout the house, the Delton Fire Department said in a news release posted to its Facebook page. First responders were able to put out the fire, the department said. Fire officials said flames were restricted to the home’s living room.

Makes sense. But now I want popcorn! :)
I personally know the people who this happened to. They are a wonderful couple who own several businesses in the Dells and treat their employees like family. The wife is an artist and although covered in ashes, it reflects in the decor. Their strong faith has helped them thru this tragedy.
Yes, we’re all glad they’re OK. Stuff can be replaced. People? Not so much. :)
Will he kiss it to make it better?
When I was a teenager, I was at my grandparents house and noticed a little wisp of smoke outside at the carpeted steps to the front door. They had one of those 5 gallon glass jugs full of water, that you got from Arrowhead back then, sitting on the front porch, and the sun was shining through it, was focused by the bottle and water, and had burned a spot in the carpet. Still remember that, almost 50 years later.
And I miss my grandparents.
He’d better!
My brothers and I used to fry grub worms on the patio during the summer in the 100 degree Texas heat. They smelled much worse than burned hot dogs.
Buddy of mine living in Brooklyn had a scorch mark on one wall of his apartment thanks to a crystal ball sitting on his desk in direct sunlight
We had a mirror that magnifies your face in a room . The sun hit it just right and it left a burn trail as the sun moved. Fortunately at no point did it get hot enough to start a fire.
You can almost get a hole burned right through you walking by certain windows installed on homes today if the sun hits them right.
Where I work I have the benefit of parking my car in an underground lot. Anywhere else I worked, no matter what time of year I was always careful not to leave a bottle of spring water, a CD cover or anything that could be reflective out on the dashboard console or the seat.
Good advice!
I have one of these jumbo crystal balls and I make sure it never sees sun light, the way they focus light in general is quite amazing.
Luckily, they knew this was going to happen ahead of time.
