Patrick Ewing, minutes after coaching Georgetown to a thrilling victory over rival Villanova in the Big East tournament, said he was annoyed by the security measures he has encountered this week at Madison Square Garden -- the hub of his Hall of Fame NBA playing career.
The Hoyas' 72-71 upset of the top-seeded Wildcats on Thursday was perhaps the most meaningful victory of Ewing's coaching career. The former New York Knicks star said after the game, however, that he has been "getting stopped" and "accosted" at Madison Square Garden.

1. What makes you think everyone - including all security personnel - should know who you are? Especially when you are probably wearing a mask?
2. If you had a security pass, were you wearing it in a visible place so security could easily see it?
Just wondering...
I wouldn’t know who he was if I saw him.
Did you forget?
Title goes here.
Link goes there.
“Don’t you know who I am?!”
Exactly...but he thinks everyone in the known universe should know who he is. And Spike Lee was offended that he could not longer use the employees’ entrance to get to his seat! Aw...po widdo baby.
Yes, but you get the idea, right?

Could you please fix the title to read “Patrick Ewing annoyed at being ‘accosted’ by MSG security, jokes ‘everybody in this building should know who the hell I am’”
They probably thought he was Big Mike O.
Madison Square Garden? Everyone who sets foot in that place should know him on sight. If there is one guy. He is that guy. Officious guards giving him a hard time definitely need to...make a deposit in a dark place, let’s just say that. Patrick Ewing gave the best years of his life entertaining fans in that venue. He worked harder in that arena than any man has ever worked. Those guards—totally ridiculous, preposterous, player-hating...Ewing should have personally picked them up and dumped them on 7th Avenue for New York’s Grubbiest to chuck in the truck!
You, sir, are quite correct. You cannot possibly live in NYC and not recognize Patrick Ewing by site, just like Derek Jeter. They’re icons — the only way you don’t recognize them is if you need an attitude adjustment or you’re just clinically thick. The security guard is a blithering idiot.
They should be sentenced to 24 hours trying to move Patrick Ewing one stinkin’inch in the paint. They would probably drop dead in thirty minutes
I’ve heard the name but had to look him up to see his face. Never knew he was black. Wouldn’t have known he played basketball if it weren’t stated in the link. Sorry, can’t get all excited over someone who’s biggest accomplishment is dribbling a ball.
Georgetown, North Carolina, Duke...epic battles in hugely entertaining games when Big Man Patrick Ewing was playing for John Thompson during the early ‘80’s at Georgetown. Patrick Ewing’s footprint on east coast basketball is huge. Perhaps the biggest ever. He was a magnificently strong, relentless, imposing, talented, and proud, but totally classy and sportsmanlike player who deserves every recognition he cold ever be given. An American original and a fine citizen of this country. No way anybody should take from this news story that he is anything different than he has always been. Go somewhere else if you’re looking for a scapegoat. No comparison to Spike Jones. Not in the least. Unless all you’re looking at is skin color.
I dunno, Sam Perkins and James Worthy managed to pull it off for North Carolina against Ewing’s Georgetown down in New Orleans in 1982 ;) Sorry, couldn’t help that one.
Black privilege.
Unless Worthy and Perkins have security gigs at MSG the verdict is the same. Guilty!
Sorry, you are wrong.
Patrick Ewing is an ICON @ Madison Square Garden. He has probably played literally HUNDREDS of games there since the early 1980s when he was with Georgetown, then a NY Knick and now Georgetown coach.
Plus he is almost 7’ TALL and almost 300 lbs.
I stood next to Patrick Ewing on the floor of the Carrier Dome back when I was a senior at SU in 84/85. He was so much bigger than Rony Seikaly that it was funny. Rony was 6’11” 230 lbs.
Ewing was 7’ pushing 300 lbs. Ewing used to push Seikaly around in the paint like he was a child.
I was 5’ 10” 150 lbs at the time. Ewing also seemed like a nice guy. Soft spoken. It was hard to hate him. Even as an Orangmen fan/Alumni. Damn Hoya’s
FYI, Seikaly also was a nice guy who worked his butt off to become a professional basketball player. He used to spend an hour/day just practicing free throws. In addition to his regular practice. He was also a pretty good student. Plus he spent a lot of time in the weight room trying to bulk up so that monsters like Ewing could not push him around as much.
Actually YES they should should know who the hell he is!
