I’m old school in this sense. Gear, thunder sticks, things that thunder sticks use, and books on certain subjects are useful.

Word is this was demonstrated in Japan in WWII. People had kept gold for emergencies, but found it won’t buy bread when there isn’t any.
You can use Gold and Silver to buy things, because they are money. And nothing else is.
Also maybe a case or two of good booze for trade...
Agree. Stock up on every non-perishable thing you will need for the next 50 years. Shoes, socks, tools, hardware, more hardware.
I work for a construction company and there is a long wait for building materials. And this is just the beginning.
Agreed. I lost a great deal of money when I realized that the one’s who profit off of buying and selling gold are the ones who sell and buy it on TV. I had the gold bug for a while, but when I had to sell it and needed the money, I figured that I lost about 50K on a 100K investment due to the fees and commissions the TV gold sellers put on it. And really, if you buy gold to be able to sell, who are you going to sell it to? For instance, will have have to sell that double eagle for a loaf of bread??? My recommendation is BE CAREFUL! Don’t listen to everyone that recommends buying and selling. Read the book “One Second After” by William Fortschen for a good outline.
I’m in your camp. Usable items that are in your physical possession. As was discovered during hurricane Sandy. A guy had a gold coin that was priced at $2k but when he went to spend it, it was only worth the face value and not the gold weight value. If the power or internet goes down, all online accounts, stocks, bitcoin, paper ownership of precious metals is completely useless.

Semi true but there are places where real gold leaf is used on some food. Europe even has a standard E-175 for gold in food.
This is for the elite obviously that don’t have a clue how to survive.
I prefer to have ammo and alcohol which you could trade easily.
Got to go with thunder sticks...then you can just take what you need from others who don’t have thunder sticks. You should know who they are by now. :-)
