Had an interesting discussion on a group chat with my family last night. My youngest daughter who is liberal and believes the mainstream media (she’ll come around eventually) was up in arms about the mean treatment of little Archie by the royal family. Skin color, lack of title, no security etc. I did a little research on his lack of title and I found out about the George V convention. Long story short there’s a internet chat, discussion about Archie becoming President one while his cousin will be king at the same time.
If Archie is considered a natural-born citizen then he doesn't need naturalization or an act of Congress. Regardless of what that well-known Constitutional reference, People Magazine, thinks.
I can see a dystopia novel with this theme ...
Is he a natural born citizen, eligible to be president?
If he runs as a Conservative Republican - No!
If he runs as a neo-Marxist Democrat - Of course he is a natural born citizen!
He isn’t a Natural Born Citizen. NBC = Born on US soil of two US citizens.
If Archie had been born in the USA, would he be a NBC, since his mother is a NBC?
No. McCain wasn’t born on the US military base. He was born in the Panama City hospital because the base didn’t have a facility for birthin’ no babies.
Sad but true
I don’t think it was Panama City. It was Cristobal on the Carribean side of the isthmus.
Short answer: yes, when he reaches the minimum age.
Slightly longer answer: yes, when he reaches the minimum age because his mother is a US citizen and conferred citizenship upon him at birth.
Even longer answer than that: yes, when he reaches the minimum age because his mother is a US citizen and conferred citizenship upon him at birth. He is eligible for a US passport as a citizen at birth, ergo, he is naturally born a citizen and that is the only standard that anyone can point to as having some sort of proven track record behind it. McCain, Cruz, Harris, Obama, Rubio all met this standard and not a single one of them was disqualified by any court or legislation from serving in the office of the Presidency. Folks on the internet may not like it, but until something happens in a more official capacity than an internet forum, that’s the truth.
Because of his plausible line to the British monarchy, it would likely be expected for political expediency (but likely not mandated) that he would formally renounce his British citizenship and place in the royal lineage through an official act with the British government like a letter filed through the British embassy. Since the US can’t dictate foreign laws, if the Brits decide to ignore that letter and keep him in line for the throne and allow him to hold a British passport, all the US could do is refuse to recognize it.
Until such a case is made and proven otherwise in the Supreme Court or resolved through an act of Congress or Amendment to the Constitution, that’s the only burden of proof that has to be met legally. Everything else is internet speculation. Of course, if he turns out to be a conservative and looks like he’d be heading for a win, all bets are off.
Natural born citizens are born here of citizen parents.
Foreign parents bequeath foreign citizenship.
Any other citizenship negates natural born citizen status.
Archie is more qualified than Kamala Harris.
PEOPLE magazine is an authoritative source....../s
Natural born citizens are NATURALLY citizens because they are born here of citizen parents and could not possibly be anything else.
ONE citizenship
ONE allegiance
ONE nationality
Best answer yet and most thorough. Thank you
Let me throw a wrinkle in... Foreign Emoluments Clause...would that apply since he’s in the Royal Family?
Not even in the same ballpark. The comparison of the two is like saying day and night are the same. First off he was born at Portland Hospital in London at 5.26am. His father is a member of the British Royal family. At best if his parents both obtain American citizenship is that he becomes a naturalized citizen. In no way can he ever be considered a natural born citizen. Thus, he is not eligible to become president or even vice president.
Cristobal is a suburb of Colon. It was one of the two.
Hahahaha I’d take him now over Heels Up!
McCain was chosen as beard for Obama precisely because his case made him a sympathetic character.
In truth he was born in Panama, not the Canal Zone and is not a natural born citizen.
Well, the son of a king or queen is a prince, by virtue of birth (prince of the royal blood as they used to say). The son of a prince, though, is not automatically a prince as well, even though they may be in the line of succession. If Harry were to become king, then his son would become a prince, but otherwise, he’s only got whatever title the monarch bestows on him.
Perhaps I’m missing something but this is how I think it works.
If Caliph Baraq of Kenya qualified, then Harry’s gotta be good to go.
And to those who say Caliph Baraq wasn’t legit, try selling that to the judge as a defense when you are on trial for violating some law he signed....
