What’s the situation down there re: shutdowns, etc? I’m up here in upper/western NY. It’s very nice, not at all as imagined by those unfamiliar with the area. However it is still subject to the dictatorship in Albany as decreed by the country’s most disgusting governor. I am contemplating a weeks vacation in an area I can live a normal life for a week.....

Savannah is a beautiful city and the food is great. (I may be biased here as I am from Savannah). The downtown area is quite pretty. LOTS of historical homes to explore. River St. is mostly tourist traps, but, there are some great food choices there. There is also Ft. Pulaski, Tybee Island and other barrier islands. There are lots of water activities like boating and fishing. If you are looking for places movies are made, there are a LOT of those too.
Most locals do NOT eat downtown though. The really good restaurants are out in the greater Savannah area. PM me if you want more specifics.
We just said a month in the St. Augustine City Mooring Field. Beautiful town. LOTS to do, fairly easy to walk to almost everything (parking can be an issue in St.Augustine).

Interestingly enough, S.C began as a colony of Barbados! The island of Barbados became one huge slavery driven industry of sugar cane. They looked North for hardwood (having no trees left standing on the island). They experimented with sugar cane in S.C. without success. They turned to tobacco there and the rest is history.......

I been to North Charleston a few times. The last time was last February to a Trump rally. Traffic congestion is awful.
South Carolina was a colony created and financed by the “Lord Proprietors”, having no ties to Barbados.
Sugar cane farming was attempted but largely failed. Prior to this failure, rice was grown in large amounts and later tobacco was introduced from Virginia and North Carolina.
You must be confusing SC with Georgia.

Good source but article written with many fallacies and vague references to fact. The only assertions that were correct were references to early, minor trading and two Barbados residents that were eventually elected to South Carolina government.
Your prior reference to lumber likely was to Georgia Live Oak used in shipbuilding and piers.
I am talking about a period of time long before South Carolina, as a state, had its own government. Bear in mind that Georgia was part of the Province of Carolina up until 1732. There is a preponderance of evidence online about the connection between Charleston and Barbados. Simply search these three words together, “South Carolina Barbados”.
