Trump is also too old. DeSantis is very Trump-like, slays the press effectively and has remained loyal to the Big Man.

Anyone who is perceived as the present GOP front-runner for 2024 will wear a target for every possible attack that can be generated by the Left and its toadies in the media. Since Trump has nothing to lose, it is better that he wear the target for now—if he chooses to run he will survive the attacks, and if he chooses not to run he will be shielding the eventual nominee for the next few years.
Let’s get Trump in 2024 and then DeSantis after. Let Trump get the nation back up and running with the economy and then put DeSantis in for 8 years to carry on. And I live in Florida and want to keep him for a while longer.
I don't know how DeSantis would be able to identify Deep State traitors any better than Trump. I'm all for DeSantis running. But it's too early. Let Trump talk policy and motivate conservatives for the next two years first. Throw DeSantis in now and he'll be old news by 2024.
Several years ago I moved Matt Bracken from the “definite patriot” column to the “maybe” column.
Why? Matt is definitely in the Patriot column. Always has been.
I believe that Trump is working on DeSantis for the job. he has the advantage of knowing the political class and who he can trust. He can bring in a lot of folks from Florida. Trump was absolutely alone a the top. Even his apparently solid choices all betrayed him, and America, except for Pompeo.

Those who think Trump minus the Republican Party plus the MAGA Party will win in 2024 are fooling themselves.
Trump’s role from here on out will be as king-maker. All GOP plans, directives and candidates will be endorsed by him.
Or they will fail.
4 years is a long time. DeSantis is fine, I have no reason to abandon Trump.

agreed next presidential election cycle is 3 years away. trump is a target anyway best to start looking at the end of the next house and senate races. love trump but we need to see where he is 2 years from now health wise.

Correct. Let all contenders make their cases. Anyway, there’s plenty to do before choosing a 2024 candidate.
Little early to say that. If the other side can just cheat, it doesn’t really matter. Let’s see what the near future holds. I think that the swearing in of President Harris is going to go over like a fart in church. We could have Desantis, Noem, Don Jr., Eric, others, or the next leader could be someone who isn’t really even on the radar yet. Whoever it is might have to wait until 2028 or be second fiddle in 2024.
Why shouldn't DeSantis stand aside and back Trump?
DeSantis as I understand it is not actually pro-Trump. He’s competent and done well but he’s connected to anti-Trump forces in Florida from an insider I hear.
Why Matt Bracken is making noise I don’t know. He’s at least frustrated his efforts were not being handled by the team around President Trump. That was a mistake.
So some frustration may be misplaced.
I'm fairly certain DeSantis would NEVER keep Deep State losers like Sessions or Barr.
I get how he was fooled by Sessions. And I get that he appointed Barr because the Senate would not approve a real choice.
But he should have fired them the minute they turned traitor on him
Anybody else would have.
