Sarah was beautiful with a disarming smile that frightened her enemies. She took on the 'good ol boy's'. She had to quit as the establishment was not ready for her. 5 kids are a handful.
Noem is just as beautiful but more serious. She's careful not to copy Sarah's smile. She doesn't have as much to take on in SD and we're in danger of falling head over heels about her. Her enemies will be waiting with their carving knives. Don't be naive.
YES! Agree.
“She doesn’t have as much to take on in SD”
South Dakota is 16th in size
South Dakota is 46th in population, more than Alaska (48th), Delaware 45th, Maine 42nd, New Hampshire 41st, Hawaii 40th.
I see a couple of presidents in there. (Both usurpers, but heh)
“So small-state female conservative governors aren’t to be considered as candidates for president or veep? Even if, like Noem, they also spent 8 years in Congress?”
Don’t forget the most important experience sorely lacking in DC, successful businesswoman since age 22.
DeSantis may well end up being the best candidate and the nominee. But a little early to shoot down the at least second best, by appearance at this point.
If the first thing said about a politician is that they are pretty...then either the politician isn’t doing anything all that impressive....or the standards need to change.
In Sarah’s case she was a governor who dealt with some significant financial issues in her state.
For Kristie, I would say her most impressive quality is how she managed her state through the COVID crisis.
Maggie Thatcher was not a “pretty” woman. Yet, she managed to change the world. We need to speak to the deeds. Their appearance and character will present themselves.
Good point. DeSantis (in comparison, as it seems to be his supporters with the knives out for Noem) has ONLY WORKED FOR THE GOVERNMENT!
But pretty shouldn’t disqualify a candidate either. (Just as “handsome” shouldn’t.)
Kristi Noem for President 2024
Ron DeSantis for Vice-President 2024
Donald J. Trump for Governor of Florida
Conservatives have traditionally believed being a successful businessperson is a very important trait when choosing a leader. At the same time there are mountains of evidence that being successful in business means absolutely nothing of the sort. Mark Cuban, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Mitt Romney, I could go on and on.
I have long since abandoned the idea that being successful in business is somehow an indication of overall intelligence or wisdom in any way shape or form. In fact these things have little to do with each other. One can be well below average intelligence and possess little worldly knowledge yet still be a wildly successful businessperson.
So I would submit being a successful business women should not even be considered relevant.
the first thing said about a politician is that they are pretty.
Kristi has scary eyes. Just sayin’.
Oh don’t forget Oprah Winfrey, Micheal Zuckerberg....
That’s your right but I see a huge difference between Wall Street / crony capitalists and Main Street / small businessmen.
They didn’t have a problem with South Dakota when it produced George McGovern.
Very true and I see your point.
The cultural rot is so deep, the debt so high & the illegals who will be legalized to votes are so numerous that this no longer matters. It’s over.
I don't think Sarah was ready for the knives that came out for her - especially from fellow Republicans.
Kristi won't make that same mistake.
I like freedom. Do you think bankrupting businesses saved lives? Do you think closing schools and churches was the preferred solution? Do you think keeping people from receiving needed medical care was a good thing? My state did all of the above. I do not think it was the way to go. I suspect we will be seeing lives ruined, suicides and preventable deaths resulting from these lockdowns for a long time. I suspect that they won’t be counted as COVID casualties.
That won't be lost on her opponents.
Like the difference between walking down a dark city street unarmed, and walking the same stretch with a 9 mm.
They will know.
Really. She has business experience in the running of the family farm. She has legislative experience from her time as a Congress(wo)man. And, she has Executive experience, now, as a Governor of a state. I'm pretty sure she can handle the POTUS position. A lot better than Obama.
I’m in agreement with you, think you should have addressed your remarks to 9yearlurker.
That's fine, but it does nothing to indicate it's a "fact" that Noem handled it the best.
What's the right metric to measure success?
