Pompeii's most amazing fresco returns to its former glory! Scientists use lasers to remove stains on stunning 2,000-year-old painting of a hunting scene in the garden of the House of the Ceii

A stunning fresco in the garden of Pompeii's Casa dei Ceii (House of the Ceii) has been painstakingly laser-cleaned and touched up with new paint by expert restorers.

The artwork — of hunting scenes — was painted in the so-called 'Third' or 'Ornate' Pompeii style, which was popular around 20–10 BC and featured vibrant colours.

Poor maintenance since the house was dug up in 1913–14 saw the hunting fresco and others deteriorate, particularly at the bottom, which is more vulnerable to humidity.

The main section of the fresco depicts a lion pursuing a bull, a leopard pouncing on sheep and a wild boar charging towards some deer.

Fantastic.

Pompeii and Herculaneum are on my bucket list. With this covid hoax though it's turned into a pipe dream apparently.

Rich in knowledge, art, and even science, as well as decadence. Sound familiar?

So often rich societies achieve so much, and morally fail so much.

I was lucky enough to be stationed at the NATO base in Naples Italy for four years in the 1980’s. I went to the Pompeii ruins many times and spent many hours watching the workers as they excavated the ruins. Awesome.

Ancient Europe had lions. Historical range of lions from wikipedia:
In southern Europe and Asia, the lion once ranged in regions where climatic conditions supported an abundance of prey.[78] In Greece, it was common as reported by Herodotus in 480 BC; it was considered rare by 300 BC and extirpated by AD 100.[47] It was present in the Caucasus until the 10th century.[52] It lived in Palestine until the Middle Ages, and in Southwest Asia until the late 19th century. By the late 19th century, it had been extirpated in most of Turkey.[79] The last live lion in Iran was sighted in 1942 about 65 km (40 mi) northwest of Dezful,[80] although the corpse of a lioness was found on the banks of the Karun river in Khūzestān Province in 1944.[81] It once ranged from Sind and Punjab in Pakistan to Bengal and the Narmada River in central India.[82]

Yep...that’s when the bug hit me too. I believe it was in 2nd grade believe it or not. We were introduced to the school library and the section we went to had a book about pompeii written for kids...

So the question is:

How should one put one’s end of life “surplus” wealth to productive use over the millennia?

The Ford Foundation has gone rogue [or red, rouge].

It would seem that only things build of stone survive.

Who funded the Roman stone structures that survive today?

Intellectual Property like personal freedom? How to continue that? Hillsdale?

While you wait there are several video and VR tours of both Pompeii and Herculaneum on youtube. As well as some of the other towns destroyed, like Stabae.

When I was walking around Pompeii. I saw some very lewd pictures on the walls. Clearly these ancient people were spreading some diseases.

Amazing experience. Make sure you study where you want to go and see first. It is a huge site and if you don’t plan it out, you won’t be able to see everything.

See the bodies last. Take my word for it. It changes the experience.
