How Much is Enough? Ammo

Posted on 02/25/2021 9:48:03 AM PST by Mean Daddy

I don't want to know how much ammo you have, rather general ideas as to how much ammo think they should have on hand to feel comfortable for each type of gun? Especially with a trend towards potential anti-gun legislation.

Ex:.38 revolver and recommend 500 rounds or AR15 5.56 and 1,000 rounds.

How much, is this a serious question? The simplest answer is as much as you can afford, and as much room as you have to store it. I laugh every time I see people talking about big arsenals of ammo and then they’re talking to and 300 rounds. I just read a book where the guy was talking about 200 rounds as being a lot, and in the book, the author wrote that the person I thought shooting 50 rounds in two or three hours was a lot. How ridiculous can these idiots be? Each of my cars have well over 1000 rounds stored in them, I have less than 1000 9mm and much less than 1000 5.56 right now, which bothers me greatly. Normally I would have 3 to 5000 rounds of each.

Whatever you have right now is going to have to be enough. There is not much out there to be had.

The other side has achieved more with bricks and molotov cocktails than armed-to-the-teeth “conservatives” will ever do.

The difference is WILL and ORGANIZATION. They have both, we have neither. We’re a bunch of armies of ones who talk tough but never do anything.

We have not yet reached the point where large scale deadly force is warranted. For all the Molotov cocktails and brick throwing, there was still a police line pretending to uphold law and order, and the Communists intentionally stayed away from armed neighborhoods.

If and when it gets to the point where large scale deadly force is warranted, there are a lot of folks, especially veterans, who fully understand will and organization.

Let’s just say that I have at least that many, lol!!!

I think I have die sets to load about 120 different calibers.

This shortage has taught me I need a stockpile 2 and a half times the size of what I had and thought sufficient. When prices come back down eventually, I’m going to buy many thousands of additional rounds.

I thought I had very little .22 rounds till I opened a box and found I had 1500 rounds I bought back around 1985.

I just found 2000 rounds in a bag in garage, have several 1000 I bought during Obama 1. The 22 is a much better weapon than preppers want to admit and they will kill you. You just need to hit the target a little more accurately not just center mass. The 22 is so easily handled that accurate shots are much easer than with a 45 cal 1911.

You will notice that non-military calibers have become hard to find and/or very expensive.

The last 3030 rounds I bought maybe a year back was a dollar a round, same for 30 cal M1 carbine rounds. I bought a Ruger 9mm carbine just because the ammo was cheap, now can't even find it.

According to all the GOP money beggars they swear that if I don't send them some money today they will tax my weapons $800.00 a year plus, plus, plus.

The idea of being able to hold out via firepower for months is a joke.

That is why the 22 cal is so important, they are useful for eating when the store close. You may be able to defend against a neighbor but you can not defend against a full on attack whether civilian or military. Those that think they can have been to too many firing ranges. Practice is over rated if you know how to shoot it is like riding a bike. We are not talking about olympic style shooters here. If you really think you need that long range sniper shot then buy a never miss scope and never miss they make them now. I just did a quick look on YouTube and those videos seem to be gone now. Price is a big downside.

Sure $2.00 a round for 380 ammo is cheap right? </s>

You are only an army of one if you aren't inviting and shooting with friends and neighbors.

For example, we have a 9mm and a .22 rifle currently. I think anything under 1000 rounds for each weapon is insufficient.

Anything which would not send a fire marshal into gibbering hysterics is insufficient.

Never said it was 'cheap", but it's available.

Back in 2002, I can remember paying 7-8¢/rnd for 5.56mm NATO and 14¢/rnd for .308 (7.62x51 NATO), and we bought pallets for shipment to m business, by common carrier trucks, where Family and friends would divvy-it-up and stockpile. Those days/years are long over.

Moved my daughter out to college and we took her shotgun and ammo to the police storage area. I had a bin about 2’x2’x 3’ of shotgun shells for her figuring it would last awhile at the nearby trap/skeet place.

I apologized to the cop as we tried to move it.

“No problem - this is maybe two days at the range around here!”.

A couple years ago I bought my wife her first pistol along with 300 rounds of self-defense ammo and 1,000 rounds of target ammo. I should have doubled the good ammo and tripled the target stuff.
