Ancient biblical prophecies in both the Old and the New Testaments indicate Iraq will become the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world in the “End of Days.”
And the most evil.
Iraq, of course, is a modern name and is not a name ever used in the Bible.
The Hebrew prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah described the region we now call Iraq variously as Babel, Babylon, Babylonia, Mesopotamia and Shinar.
In the New Testament, the Book of Revelation also speaks of the future of Babylon.
In fact, the Apostle John described a prophetically reborn “Babylon” as the epicenter of wickedness in the last days, and the most serious national security threat to a prophetically reborn state of Israel...

Zechariah 5:7 And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this is a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah. 8 And he said, This is wickedness. And he cast it into the midst of the ephah; and he cast the weight of lead upon the mouth thereof. 9 Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven. 10 Then said I to the angel that talked with me, Whither do these bear the ephah? 11 And he said unto me, To build it an house in the land of Shinar: and it shall be established, and set there upon her own base.
What appears to precipitate the rise of Babylon, is a collapse of the world economy due to socialism (legislated theft)...
Zechariah 5:3 Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.

Time is short sister. I know many consider America to be Babylon, and while America may fit many of the stereotypical descriptions, I believe your accurate assesment is correct. Both Biblically and geographically.
We know what is coming upon this world. We can try to educate the masses. Whether they accept or reject the Gospel is on them. To those of us who accept the Truth as it is written, this is an encouragement of our Faith and a testimony of our beliefs.
Time is short and we are encouraged to know, soon we shall be face to face with our Creator. I would encourage others to choose this day whom to serve, the Creator, or the deceiver. What is soon to come upon this world is not a world you want to live in.
Seek out the Truth. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His Word does not change. To the masses I ask, when you face Jesus Christ, will He represent you as Advocate or Judge?
Babylon of the Old Testament and “Mystery Babylon” of the New Testament are two distinctly different things, so confusing them is a big mistake. Mystery Babylon is pretty clearly identified in Revelation, and it isn’t in Iraq.
Babylon Rising? War-torn Iraq is rebuilding and Pope Francis is heading there to see it for himself, encourage Christian community to convert to Islam
And the most evil...
And the Evil one is going there to insure it happens!
I agree with you that Mystery Babylon is a religious system.
Rev 11:8 (KJV) - “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
Where was the Lord crucified? Jerusalem.
What cities have 7 hills? Rio, Rome, and... Jerusalem. Every Jewish school child learns the names of the 7 hills of Jerusalem.
Jerusalem is also called Babylon, a prostitute, faithless wife, dead vine, etc.
A prostitute or faithless wife is a false religion in the OT if not a ref. to a person like Rahab. Babylon is where the false religions began, then spread, and we have the false Babylonian Talmud and Kabbalah to this day.
There are many Bible teachers who’ve said that Babylon, in Revelation, does not actually mean the city of Babylon, but many old school Bible teachers (J Vernon McGee, etc) say they believe it is the actual city of Babylon John, in Revelation, is writing of.
I just forwarded the article, before I had even read your comment, to some of my friends, to show them that the actual rebuilding of Babylon could be the right interpretation.
Jerusalem is never called Babylon in scriptures. Sodom, yes. Egypt, yes.
*** For students of Bible Prophecy, there are very specific scriptures regarding a rebuilt Babylon in Iraq, ***
Well, the Iraqis have asked the occupying USA to leave, but we won’t. It would seem if you are correct in the physical location, the USA is building the new Babylon. Not surprised.
“What cities have 7 hills? Rio, Rome, and... Jerusalem. Every Jewish school child learns the names of the 7 hills of Jerusalem.”
Many cities are built on 7 hills:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_claimed_to_be_built_on_seven_hills
One not on the list is Neom, Saudi Arabia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neom
According to one blogger (https://nightwatchman.blog/2018/09/18/7-kings-and-7-mountains-of-neom-saudi-arabia/ NOT AN ENDORSEMENT) it is being built on 7 mountains: Jabal Al-Lawz, Jabal Al Qalom, Jabal Maqla, Jabal Ad-Dubbagh, Jabal Harb, Jabal Huwad, and Jabal Shar.
The city is meant to be a city for the whole world and plans to use ocean shipping, among other commerce, as a means to generate wealth.
In Revelation Babylon seems to be both a political and religious system embodied in a specific city. Traditionally, Rome has been the most popular city designated as being symbolized by Babylon. However, many have also said that Babylon will be rebuilt.
Every generation of Christian tends to see prophetic fulfillment in the current events. If we lived in WW2 we certainly would have thought it was the end. Perhaps it is very close, but we cannot know until it actually arrives.
Attempts to identify Babylon, antichrist, and the mark of the beast are very speculative in my opinion. That’s not necessarily bad; we just shouldn’t be too dogmatic about something that the Bible has not made altogether clear.
Well, I think “Mystery Babylon” is more than just a general symbol of false religion. It’s a very specific symbol of those who had true faith and then turned apostate, not just pagan religion in general. You can’t be an adulteress unless you were once married and faithful, so just as Jerusalem is once described as a virgin, spotless bride (as the New Jerusalem is as well), Mystery Babylon is the mother of adulteries, as she is where the first faithful bride of God turned away to chase other lovers.
“Jerusalem is never called Babylon in scriptures.”
Not directly, but definitely indirectly. There’s are many cities on seven hills, but only one of them is described as responsible for the blood of all the prophets, indeed described as such by Jesus himself. Mystery Babylon is also described as responsible for the blood of all the prophets. No other city fits this criteria (and a few others as well).
Yes, many cities are built on seven hills, but only one city in the world fits the other criteria in the description of “Mystery Babylon”, and it isn’t in Saudi Arabia.
