South Dakota’s attorney general — who said he hit a deer after fatally striking a pedestrian last year — allegedly had the victim’s glasses inside his car, according to newly-released interviews.
The state’s Department of Public Safety on Tuesday released recordings of investigators questioning Jason Ravnsborg about the Sept. 12 crash that left 55-year-old Joseph Boever dead.
The footage shows how, during a Sept. 14 interview, detectives told Ravnsborg that they had discovered a pair of broken glasses on the front passenger floorboard of his vehicle. During a second sit-down on Sept. 30, interviewers asked about the glasses again, telling Ravnsborg that they had belonged to the victim.

Except he knew the guy and the guy was walking why?
I didn’t see the pic. The window was kicked OUT and not in? It’s getting weirder.
It looks like it. The passenger side front bumper is smashed up..and it doesn’t make sense that the body would deflect to the window. I’ll find a pic.
Google his name the word car and images. Maybe kicked in...just don't know...but they'll know. Doesn't make sense because of the body damage.
“Shortly after I moved to south Louisiana, I was riding in a car with a coworker who pointed out the proliferation of road-kill armadillo decorating the roadway. “
That sparked a memory from when I was a little kid in the car riding on a section of Interstate in Louisiana that had just recently opened. The Armadillo carnage along the roadside was spectacular.
😮
When I was a truck driver trainee, the instructor (a good friend) once said “If a deer jumps out into the road,” then he paused for effect, and said “hit him in the head and save the meat.” Had me laughing so hard I almost went in the ditch.
‘In many areas, deer approach the status of vermin, large economy sized rats on the hoof.’
Thats the way it is here, farmland in the foothills of the Alleganys. I hit a deer while my 5-year old daughter (who had just watched the Disney Bambi movie) was with me, she said: Was that BAMBI?? I said no, it was the bad deer, Ronno. She was OK with that.
LOL! Well-played.
In SD, they do.
And my Dad had one break through the windshield and run off.
Granted, he didn’t drive away. Pretty much destroyed the car. Never found the deer.
That clears up a lot.
- He hit the “deer” and immediately called the Sheriff, who was on scene in about 10 minutes.
- It was dark, and neither the DA nor the Sheriff saw the body laying off the roadway.
- Next morning, DA stops by the scene again, sees the body and drives to the Sheriff’s house to get him.
- DA is charged with 3 misdemeanors. Unsafely driving outside a lane, careless driving, and using his phone while driving.
Sounds like he was distracted and swerved onto the shoulder where the victim was walking. Apparently, there is no Negligent Homicide in SD. Seems odd that you can kill a man in SD and only face minor traffic infractions. I’m pretty sure Joe Sixpack would be facing manslaughter or worse.
I’ve hit a deer 4 times.
In all three times it was clearly recognizable as a deer.
I am guessing a previous poster was correct...Distracted on the phone drifted to the right where someone was walking.
Especially if he is admitting to being on the phone.
Sometimes a piece of crap worthy only of a short drop has an (R) by their name. So what? This bastard should swing.
