Tiger Woods is 'awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room' after extensive surgery on Tuesday to his lower right leg and ankle, following a crash in California that police said he was lucky to survive.
Woods, 45, was put under general anesthetic at Harbor-UCLA hospital as surgeons fitted metal rods, screws and pins to his shattered right shinbone and calf bone following the crash, which happened around 7.15am Tuesday in south Los Angeles.
Anish Mahajan, chief medical officer at the hospital, said Woods suffered comminuted open fractures of his tibia and fibula - where the bone splinters into two or more pieces and comes through the skin - and had a rod inserted in his tibia, with his foot and ankle 'stabilized with a combination of screws and pins'.

HI rehab sessions will go on for half the day: both legs and the back.
I read almost the same about ankle fusions. A lot don’t work. My foot and ankle are getting better but the worst is the cuboid arthritis under the tendons. The specialist says stretch and keep it moving and it will improve. Since it’s arthritis from trauma I’m hoping it will eventually go away.
I doubt Tiger will recover from this accident. Mine was just a bad ankle sprain with nothing broken.
His putting remains solid but his driving went to hell. (so am i)
For a right-handed golfer, when the ball goes left it is "pulled" or hooking, not slicing.
A ball to the right either fades or slices or is "pushed" to the right.
Sprains are always worse than clean breaks as far as recovery goes.
Whether it's successful or not is another story.
The famous Ben Hogan made a comeback after a serious car wreck injury.
Freeper humor has been just one of the benefits of being here. Thank you for your contribution.
Instead of beeping, Hyundai should make this car’s horn yell, “Fore”!
Your attempt at humor reveals you don’t know proper golf terminology.

Lucky for President Trump that it was a one care accident, or else, President Trump would have been blame for causing the accident.
No.. no..i think the sales will go up!
That’s what the first doctor told me after telling me the ligaments and tendons were “torn” but not ruptured. He said nothing was broken and I said “oh good”. He laughed and said “honey, you will wish you had broken this foot before these tendons heal”. He was so right! I’m seeing a specialist in Knoxville now and she says the tendons have healed but they and the muscles in my leg are too tight. I also have the cystic arthritis that is causing issues. She said it will be slow but it should get good enough to function as long as I wear the brace with a high top boot when outside. The brace is not needed on level ground unless it’s weak and feels like it wants to roll.
Actually is may well be. The legacy media reported that the vehicle may have indeed saved his life. It absorbed the energy of the impact and the passenger compartment was intact.
Could be a marketing boon for the Genesis GV80 SUV.
Fore!
My doc told me I had loose joints, prone to sprains and tears. It took me forever to heal up.
He told me more than once that it would have been better just to break the bone than to rip up everything around it.
That catconverter is worth $$$
I saw his long interview at the Genesis tournament site. He was visibly upset/sad.
He was going to check on the healing process on his back in a couple of days with an MRI.
I thought he felt like that was not going well.
He is not a happy man...
