Mayor Svante Myrick will propose replacing the city’s current 63-officer, $12.5 million a year department with a “Department of Community Solutions and Public Safety” which would include armed “public safety workers” and unarmed “community solution workers,” all of whom will report to a civilian director of public safety instead of a police chief. Under the proposal, all current officers would have to re-apply for a position with the new department.
If the proposal is approved, calls for service will be evaluated to determine whether an armed or unarmed respondent is necessary, or another public agency altogether would be best to respond. Mental health calls would be outsourced to a standalone unit of social workers based on the CAHOOTS program pioneered in Eugene, Oregon. The goal, ultimately, is to have far fewer encounters between citizens and armed government agents.
He admitted he’s yet to decide whether he’ll use the term “abolish” when discussing the proposal: “This plan would abolish the police department while not abolishing policing,” he said.

How many unarmed responders will have to get blown away before they realize what a bad idea this is? There’s no way to predict the outcome of a call for law enforcement. Even the most innocuous sounding calls can turn deadly.
People think this is a solution.
If they think deaths were elevated in the past, just wait.
They are doing anything but relabeling it.
This garbage is stupid and in the end it will be shown to be folly.
I was an LEO for 30 years. I was a Sergeant for most of those years and a Detective Sergeant for about 25 years. I was a very good crimefighter, team builder and leader and I enjoyed most of those years.
In todays world, I would most certainly choose a much different road.
Occupying city hall? We’ll send an unarmed negotiating team in twenty minutes.
Serving a drink with a plastic straw? We’ll dispatch a SWAT team right away.
Are these people given over by God to a reprobate mind????

I think one of the things that President Trump did, and isn’t talked about much, is that he allowed people in leadership positions to lead. He didn’t cover for them.
Look at his vaccine plan. Get the vaccine out and distribute to the states so they can handle what needs to be handled. Let the Governors, who convinced the people that they knew what they were doing, do their jobs.
The people of Ithaca voted for this moron. His plan will be a disaster. But....oh well. This is what they voted for.

The “Government” shall deem that the Armed “Community Service” Military Assault Squads are to take control of ALL areas and shall provide 24/7 Community Service patrols to help keep the Population safe from (name the color of your skin or religion or political Ideology)

Propaganda Official for the local or regional area filters all news of the “incident.
As soon as you see the word SOCIAL or Community in Any description it is the real term used to hide the word TOTALITARIAN.
Sad prediction that come spring watch for a HUGE series of False flags where all these poor unarmed fools are going to be shredded in the hoods. I pray they are not but I know that they do this of their own choice.

If I were a police officer in Ithaca now, I’d quite, hopefully en mass and let the “yuts” have at it, starting with the mayor’s wife or whatever, and kids.
Is there a sane, competent mayor in any northern city in New York State - Albany, Ithaca, Rochester, Buffalo, etc? From what I’ve seen and heard, the answer is “NO” with a CAPITAL “NO”.
