REVEALED: Parler’s New CEO Wants Convention That Would Let George Soros Rewrite The Constitution
National File ^ | Feb 21 | JACK HADFIELD

Posted on 02/21/2021 1:09:03 PM PST by RandFan

Mark Meckler, the new interim CEO of Parler, currently supports a Convention of States that could give George Soros and other interests the power to rewrite the Constitution. Meckler, who was appointed as interim CEO of Parler following the removal of founder John Matze, currently runs the Convention of States Project, a supposed “grassroots” organization pushing for a convention under Article V of the Constitution.

The project describes itself as a “national effort to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress,” which initially sounds appealing.

However, a report by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities argued that such a restriction on an Article V convention would be impossible, with states unable to control what a convention could and could not discuss, and nobody else having clear constitutional control over the convention.

Former Chief Justice Warren Burger wrote in 1988 that “there is no way to effectively limit or muzzle the actions of a Constitutional Convention. The Convention could make its own rules and set its own agenda. Congress might try to limit the Convention to one amendment or one issue, but there is no way to assure that the Convention would obey. After a Convention is convened, it will be too late to stop the Convention if we don’t like its agenda.”

Conservative Justice Antonin Scalia echoed this sentiment in 2014. “I certainly would not want a constitutional convention,” said Scalia. “Whoa! Who knows what would come out of it?”

There is a difference between a Constitutional Convention and a Convention of States. This writer has them mixed up.

The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures (aka Convention of States).

Moot point since neither will happen.

“ Mark Levin has been promoting Convention of States for years now. Check out what he has said about this. He’s the smart one in the room here.”

Amen.

“At least we know you don’t read past the click-bait headline!”

Or we know that not all of us have the amount of time to read all commentary posted. Some of us have other priorities. Glad to know you must have the time to read every article of every thread you post to.

A constitutional convention cannot be restricted. When it starts, anything can be proposed. It’d probably be turned against us even if we had the majority of the state delegations. It would be as all encompassing and detailed as the Texas constitution. It would be created by the Republican state legislators who refused to stop the steal.

That said, it might be our only hope someday.

Any social media setup that requires your number is a zero sum endgame for our family.

With choices we all have to think on what we want to perceive then prove it.

Unless the Media Platform is owned by the Voters, it is just a revenue stream for the Owners.

Huge difference.

Blessings.

Wacko nutcase news. Any election gives George Soros an opportunity to rewrite the laws, but that doesn't mean that we give up on elections. Someone could support a convention of states, but that doesn't mean they want Soros to rewrite the Constitution.

This is just nutty. Opposing a new convention is a good idea. Too much could happen. We don't need a new Constitution. But the point of the article seems to be to smear somebody by associating him with Soros.

Regardless of the method ratification, I read it as 3/4th of the states have to approve any amendment...

Which means 13 states could kill any amendment....

I can’t imagine less than 13 states would vote to eliminate the 2nd amendment or how we elect Presidents...

Total garbage headline. COS will not rewrite the constitution to Soros’ Mentality.

Mike Farris, Mark Levin etc are in favor of COS.

Right, people have been yakking about it for 20 years, isn’t going to happen even if the Dems stack the court.

I don’t think the Parler CEO supports Soros. The article is just fear porn that, if a Convention is held, liberals will grab control of it and Constitutionalize their agenda. They will do that anyway in due time. In the mean time, they want us paralyzed from doing anything until they are ready to do it themselves.

“I don’t want an echo chamber which is what I found Parler seemed to be.”

I was on Parler and found it to be no more an echo chamber than Free Republic. Conservative articles being commented on by conservatives. In fact the same people I followed on Parler are the people I follow on Gab. In terms of content I find Gab and Parler to be identical except I run into a lot more antisemitism on Gab.

"A constitutional convention cannot be restricted. When it starts, anything can be proposed."

Are you sure? If 2/3rds of the State Legislatures came together for a specific Amendment, you're saying it would NOT be restricted to that Amendment? Guess I've had it wrong.

What ever amendment is passed by a COS still has to be approved by 2/3 of the states doesn’t it?

You name 37 states that would ratify a Soros constitution and then I might start worrying.
