The United States will reach a level of herd immunity to COVID-19 that will allow for a return to normal by April, according to Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Makary noted that the number of COVID-19 cases is down 77% in the last six weeks. He claimed this is due to natural immunity among people who have been previously infected and the 15% of the population already vaccinated.
Depending on the estimate, herd immunity to the coronavirus is thought to be when 60% to 80% of the population have either been infected or vaccinated.
“As more people have been infected, most of whom have mild or no symptoms, there are fewer Americans left to be infected,” Makary wrote. “At the current trajectory, I expect Covid will be mostly gone by April, allowing Americans to resume normal life.”
Makary’s analysis depends on the number of people who have been infected. About 28 million people in the U.S. have been infected, about 8% of the population. Makary argued that the real number is much higher, possibly 55%, or about 182 million people.

I actually have bronchitis right now. I was kind of surprised that they didn’t run a Wuhan Red Death test. I guess the X-ray was enough.
Herd mentality already here.
Yep. The mask is actually a vector for the virus, that’s what I’ve been saying for awhile now.
And now the latest thing is TWO masks, and you can spot credulous suckers out wearing two masks now.
I have been wearing two masks lately. But that is only because breathing cold air does bad things to my red blood cells. I promise I will stop when the temps go above 60℉.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to step on your toes.
Oh, mercy. My toes are made of stern stuff. You didn’t. I hate that it looks like I’m caving to the covid cowards. I’m not. I just have a need these days for red blood cells.
:)
Good for you.
I just wear a neck gaiter. Pull it up as needed, which isn’t often. I’ve found ways to live my life as always while getting around this stupidity.
I have had 3 sinus infections since this thing started. I get them regularly. Every time I call the docs office and he calls me back he starts screening me for COVID. I stop him and say.....doc, it’s my usual sinus infection....that I get regularly. He stops and says....okay, we’ll call you in some Augmentin.
The weird part was, my normal doctor was out and they sent me to Urgent care. Never met them before but when I mentioned my annual gift of Bronchitis, they seemed to get the picture.
