Anyway, the reason it was in Fort Collins is ’cause Dan lived in Fort Collins. Remember, his original complaint was his wife wouldn’t let him spend the money, because she was not a fan.
She wouldn’t let him spend the money on a subscription to the newsletter, so that’s when I suggested he do a bake sale and leave his wife out of it if she didn’t want to be part of it. (interruption) Oh, that’s right. He was getting Xerox copies. That’s what blew me up. We had a copyright and intellectual theft issue going on, and this guy did not know that he was admitting to a crime by saying he was copying issues of The Limbaugh Letter and passing it around. So I had to put a stop to that. We insisted that he do the bake sale idea.
Rush kept me sane when I returned from service and helped me not to feel like I wasnt the only sane person in an insane world. I remember the day Rush mentioned the Free Republic, and my love for this place began.
I move for an Annual Dan's Bake Sale day in honor of everyone's second dad, best friend they never met, the Doctor of Democracy, Rush.

I was there at Dan’s Bake Sale. I have a radio show here in Arizona and I talked about it. We had a whole show devoted to our Rush memories.
I was living in Colorado at the time. It was a stunning turnout. I knew conservatism had a major following that day.
I was at a gun show in Fort Collins that day. No one came. Everyone was going to Rush.
We watched cars on I-25 heading north through Albuquerque displaying banners on the way to Dan’s Bake Sale.
Finished in surgery about 4pm on Friday before the Bake Sale. Loaded the family in the car and drove 9 hours to get there. Very much a mountain-top experience. Still have our picture with Dan and other memento’s. Magnificent group of like-minded folks celebrating life in the greatest nation in human history. Ironically, the only other experiences like it were the breathtaking Trump rallies of the last 5 years. You really knew you were amongst kindred spirits who were decent, honest, law abiding, wholesome folks. As bad as things are in the world now, I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like if not for the great movement Rush built and nurtured.
You hit the nail on the head. Mr. Limbaugh said, out loud, the things so many of were thinking. Mark Levin said, “Rush made being patriotic cool” or words to that effect. He did that and so much more.
Damn am I going to miss the man. At age 74 he was so much a part of so much of my life.
It is like missing a part of me.

Also very impressive to me was the dedication of the overwhelming majority of attendees, who had to drive in or fly in from other parts of Colorado and out of state. There were rented buses from all the neighboring states and Texas and further afield, caravans of RV's from everywhere. And here all I had to do to get to Dan's Bake Sale was get on my bicycle.
Yes, it is as if my brother died. I listened since 1988.
We were there My 14 yo daughter was home schooled and listened to Rush every day for ‘Current Events’ :)
She had been singing at patriotic gatherings since the Gulf War so she wanted to sing at this one so we went...She sang the National Anthem and God Bless America...If you were there and saw that little girl belting out patriotic songs to that big audience with all those TV cameras trained on her...Yes that was my daughter....
The TEA Party was Dan's Bake Sale all grown up and ready for action and needing a leader.
The leader Rush prepared us for was Donald Trump.
Consequently, the three most important people, the ones who really led us to where we are right now were Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump.
No question.
Somewhere I have saved a clipping from the local city rag, with a photo of my sister. During the quick downpour that morning, we took our 4 & 2 year olds to shelter under an Old Town awning, while she still stood out there guarding our stroller. It was a very lightweight model, and she turned it upside down to hold it over her head to keep off the rain. A city newspaper photographer snapped the photo, and captioned it "Stroller Head". Sub-caption was, "a woman who identified herself as Leslie from Longmont takes shelter during a downpour". Heh heh! Stroller-Head.
Dang, I miss her!! Died of lung cancer that started out as endometrial cancer and moved to the lymph nodes and then the lungs and kidneys.
Then on another occasion, Rush was talking about Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg putting on blackface at the Comedy Roast, and that it didn't go over very well. Rush couldn't understand what Ted Danson saw in Whoopi Goldberg, and then he remembered that Frank Langella, who was once considered a very sexy man (back in his younger days), that Langella and Goldberg had been an item too. Rush said: You know the movie "White Men Can't Jump," well, in this case, "White Men Can't See."
Those are two of Rush's funny stories that have stuck in my head all these years. I found Rush during Desert Storm.
Rush gave Conservatives confidence. He showed us we didn't need to be afraid to admit we were Conservatives.
A local news item the next day started out with: "An estimated 35,000 people descended on this city of 87,000" ... and ended with "Despite the size of the crowd, there were no incidents and no arrests. 'This is the most well-behaved crowd I've ever seen,' said Bud Reed, a Fort Collins police officer."
The behavior of the crowd reminds me of the reaction of a local Lefty to the crowd. He was a co-worker of mine, and he posted an account on Usenet of his experiences that day, for the benefit of fellow lefties who were eager to hear horror stories of what it was like to be surrounded by hordes of raging rightwingnuts.
He was a volunteer for the Red Cross, who always set up a table soliciting donations at every single major outdoor event in the County. So he was there that day helping to man the table. His reaction was priceless ... he first said what it was he had expected to see, but then grudgingly admitted that it was not that way at all.
Of course, he didn't particularly like what the vendors at other tables were selling - eg "Spotted Owl Recipe Book," Tshirts making fun of Bill & Hillary, pro-2A paraphernalia, etc. But he said the people all seemed "normal" ... "many young couples with young kids" ... people of all ages ... "exceedingly polite ... every time someone would accidentally bump into someone else, both would say excuse me". He immediately followed that with "It was depressing".
Ha! Did you get that? First chance he ever had to view a huge swarm of conservatives, and he discovers much to his chagrin that they're all exceedingly polite, seemingly "normal" people ... HOW UTTERLY DEPRESSING! LOL.
Wow. I even remember I was driving on I-40 listening the day Dan called in. I even remember the Dan’s Bake Sale promo song, “We’re baking cooookies”. Seems like it was yesterday.
I remember him casting the movie about the Gulf “Waw”, I remember Gorbasms, the Rush to Excellence Tour, man the memories that have come rushing back to me today.
It’s been a real day of sadness to lose such an amazing man but also much joy reflecting back on the joy Rush brought us.
I wonder whatever happened to Dan. Still married to his liberal wife? If so, did she switch over to conservatism? Does he have any kids? Whats he doing now?
