A Chicago man devised an unorthodox way to reserve a parking spot — by freezing his denim pants, so they stand upright in the desired space. His only-in-the-Windy-City method of calling dibs has taken social media by storm.
“Polar vortex fun: pants with nobody inside them!” wrote West Ridge’s Adam Selzer in a tweet with more than 1,300 likes. An accompanying photo shows his frozen pants standing in a parking spot as if H.G. Wells’ “Invisible Man” is guarding the space.
To accomplish the in-jean-ious lifehack, the local tour guide explains that one simply needs to soak a pair of britches and place them outside. “In about 20 minutes you can form them to shape, and in another 20 they’re solid,” Seltzer writes.

I guess lockdown and Winter have us all bored - and sometimes inspired.
No starch required.
Lots of stories about people who put chairs in their vacant spots. It didn’t turn out well.
You’re forgetting the intimidation factor.
I said, “I do not fear those pants
With nobody inside them.”
I said, and said, and said those words.
I said them. But I lied them.
Why would jeans lessen what happened to chairs?
Movie theater seat “dibs” is the worst. One person spreads their coat and purse and shopping bags to claim a half-dozen seats. The movie starts and “my friends will be here ANY MINUTE!” Whatevs. Worse than manspreading. Or was.
Actually not a bad idea. Once it gets warm out, it loses the spot.
No brainer.
It’s Chicago. How does he keep people from stealing the pants?

Nice!
Isn’t that littering? Write ticket. Pants leave.

It’s a Chicago tradition. No cop’s gonna write a ticket. Woe to anyone who moves these items and takes the spot. Cars have been known to be completely iced down for taking a “dibbed spot”.
Frozen clothing will save your parking spot? Strange traditions for those who live in that alien world. Glad I live out west where they have this thing called driveways and garages.
It looks like art.
And there are a few ethnicities that are rather superstitious. Might spook them away.
