LOS ANGELES (NewsNation Now) - COVID-19 infections among dockworkers at ports in Southern California have lead to a massive slow down.
It is another ripple effect of the pandemic and you can imagine the ripple effect on the retail economy, and the traffic jam is not expected to ease up anytime soon. But port officials say the situation is in check.
Dozens of cargo ships are linked up, anchored and waiting to be offloaded outside the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The backup Thursday morning was at 50.
“It’s not random, it’s not chaos, it’s not out of control, my analogy is it’s a safe truck stop at the side of the road,” said Kip Louttit, Maritime Exchange of Southern California’s executive director.
The Maritime Exchange of Southern California monitors ship traffic.
“I feel bad for everybody who is hung up in the congestion with cargo which isn’t getting where it’s supposed to be. The longest ship out there got there on the 30th of January. So that ship’s been there 11 days so whatever’s onboard isn’t getting where it’s supposed to be,” Louttit said.

Too bad the cure is forbidden.
Prepare for another slowdown and empty store shelves.

San Diego port officials have decided to send all incoming cargo vessels to Malibu Beach due to the covid infections rates of dock workers who have been busy unloading ships from China.
Taking a page from California history, Governor Newsome has declared that all arriving cargo vessels are to be beached at Malibu and abandoned. This precedent was set in 1849 in San Francisco when arriving ships were abandoned by their crews. Years later the abandoned vessels were covered over to produce more land for local real estate speculators.
This announcement has further impacted Malibu Beach home prices which had nose-dived after PG&E’s announcement two weeks ago of contract signings with state and Federal governments to build a 3,000 tower windfarm just off Malibu Beach as part of the Great Green Reset.
Ok, that got a chuckle. Nicely done! Not quite Babylon Bee level, but in that direction, which is high praise.
Toilet paper shortage again? Askin for a friend.
Excellent - cuz unfortunately a lot of low-info people need to feel some economic pain so that they’ll turn on His Fraudulency and the Rats.
Can’t come to work today boss, ya I got a cold.
How many reported cases out of how many total workers? Fake news?
If you’ve ever seen pictures of San Francisco bay during the Gold Rush, it is amazing - ships packed together, with no crews remaining to pilot them to other places. Seamen would sign on in some far-off port, get to San Francisco, then disappear into the hills looking for gold.
My understanding was that the ships were cannibalized for building materials (for actual buildings).
very nice LOL
