By refusing to participate, Chief Justice Roberts is sending us all a clear message: This whole thing is a sham.
But I can’t see how a Chief Justice’s presence must be mandatory. Yes, it’s specified in the Constitution. But suppose there is no Chief Justice, due to a death or a retirement. Or suppose the Chief Justice is a cranky old coot. By not participating, should he alone be able to stop an impeachment? It would seem to me that Congress should be able to move forward regardless.
They dance around it because repubes are complicit.
The Conservatives just play along because President Trump will be found not guilty.
That is extremely lazy and dangerous.
Rightly or wrongly, the Democrat Party just showed the people of the United States that the Supreme Court doesn’t matter.
They can have legal proceedings outside the authority of the Supreme Court.
They just showed us that the hard work put in to have Supreme Court Justices that follow the law instead of the wishes of the Democrat Party, was for nothing.
The law only counts when the Democrat Party wants it to count.
And that, folks, is how you get a dictatorship.

It’s a SHOW. They know it’s all legally meaningless.
“Laws” are bow by executive fiat, which gives congress nothing else to do but waste time on shows like this.

The Democrat Party just acted outside of the law.
They have had a legal proceeding outside of the review of the Supreme Court.
Everyone knows that President Trump is not guilty and will not be found guilty.
That doesn’t matter to the Democrats.
They just thumbed their noses at the Supreme Court.

My God, are you going to post that same comment on every thread you respond to? You’re a broken record, and you are weakening any argument you may have had.
I don’t know where the Obastard was born, and there are arguments both for and against his being born in Hawaii. But absent a definitive ruling one way or the other we are left with a parlor game for which there is no right or wrong answer.
Tell you what: I assume you’re an American citizen, so perhaps you have standing to bring a legal action for just such a determination.

I hate to have to say it, but I’m giving Roberts a pass here. He could have said, “Yes, I’ll preside over this impeachment, if only because the Constitution requires it.”
But that’s not what Roberts did. He simply refused to get involved. That alone puts a black mark over the whole affair. And it will be remembered as such.
Easy, they ignore it.
Republicans were too stupid and NeverTrumper to just say, “That’s not Constitutional” and refuse to participate, like Roberts refused.
Roberts have them the perfect out, what idiots.
It’s kind of important.
It is when we left the rails of the Constitution.
Obama is precisely why the founders excluded the children of foreigners from being President.
He corrupted our entire government.
He set in motion everything that has happened to our effort at a restoration with the election of President Trump.
The spying, the framing for the Russia nonsense with the FBI, the 1st impeachment for asking about the crimes Joe Biden admitted to on video, right up to and including the Big Steal.
I do want a ruling for the Roberts court.
I do not trust THIS court to reach a correct decision, they will uphold their own perfidy.

In that case, the Constitution was forfeited generations ago, and we’ve been living under a “Rule by Myth” ever since.

If Trump can win his appeals and somehow reverse the election, they will insist they need to try him again with Roberts presiding. The idea is to drag this out as long as possible.
