With the 1981 release of Rush's Moving Pictures album, "The Camera Eye" took us on a musical journey across the Atlantic in the bands unique lyrical and musical style. The song tangibly describes New York and London; The long held subjects of story, fantasy and lore along with the qualities that energize these magical cities.
Enjoy!!

I caught Rush when they played Moving Pictures in its entirety at Madison Square Garden. Experiencing The Camera Eye live was epic; catching it at MSG was quasi-religious.

I’m glad to see that Geddy and Alex are moving beyond their grief enough to start discussing some sort of collaboration or project together. It’ll in no way be Rush, but it will still be head and shoulders above so much of what is considered prog rock out there. I always felt that Geddy would be a fiting replacement for Chris Squire.
And here I was expecting some footage from Sacramento or maybe the Kansas City Royals.
Though this was a Limbaugh article.
Never liked the castrada sound of that band.
Love Rush!!! I have pretty much all their albums (except their first one — I like it OK, but just not the same as after Peart joined), but haven’t listened to them for a while. I anticipate the next two months I’m going to be listening to nothing but Rush!
Camera Eye is a great song! That was back when people had a decent attention span (or maybe were sufficiently stoned) to listen to a 20 minute song.
LOL. I wish!!
I was in a band that covered Spirit of Radio with a good female singer, it worked pretty well.
As one of he presenters for the inductees, yes. I saw that. They sounded good together.
Pretty sure the song of the times from that album is
“Witch Hunt”
The night is black
Without a moon
The air is thick and still
The democrats gather on
The lonely torchlit hill
Features distorted in the flickering light
Faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The Mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
Confident their ways are best
Ooh, ahh
The unrighteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill
They say there are strangers who threaten us
Our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness, too dangerous
In our theatres and bookstore shelves
Those who know what’s best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves
Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear, walk hand in hand
“We can go from boom to bust
From dreams to a bowl of dust
We can fall from rockets’ red glare
Down to “Brother can you spare —”
Another war — another waste land —
And another lost generation...”
Between the Wheels
My favorite band of them all! And they served as a springboard of sorts into the wider world of progressive rock for me.
And of course I admire them for sticking to their vision and achieving success anyway.
That was probably the easiest gig Geddy had done in years - all he had to do was play bass!

Geddy playing “Roundabout” with YES at their HOF induction. Jon Anderson’s voice is unbelievable - still.
