It's clear the impeachment managers, realizing they don't have the votes to convict because Trump's speech could not have incited a riot that was pre-planned, are now alleging, equally without evidence, that Trump was in on it all along. Wouldn't this require the House to re-impeach since incitement doesn't fit the newly uncovered evidence?
Why don't we just schedule a new impeachment weekly, or even daily? The lesson of "Orange Man Bad" is eternal, of course.
. I know folks are busy, so we condense it to a manageable length, say two minutes, then broadcast it on every telescreen.
This is a political kangaroo court. It can do anything it wants to do.
Absolutely. It’s an act that reeks of desperation. The mission being to keep Trump from running and winning again. That’s the sum of all their fears. What keeps them awake at night. There will be no COVID excuse in 2024. Dems know that without mass mail-in ballot fraud, they don’t have a prayer.
😂😂😂
Any chance these things will appear during the hearings, or has Soros paid PDJT’s attorneys an extra bonus to ignore them?
What is strange to me is that the Trump lawyers haven’t even pointed out the obvious:
The charge is a crime against a private citizen yet the Senate has taken it upon themselves to usurp the authority of the Judicial Branch (courts) and try the crime within their political body.
The Senate, voting that the Constitutional proscriptions don’t apply in this specific case have wholly negated, not just the 3rd Article, but the entire Constitution.
Under this new understanding, “peaceful assembly” (confronting lawmakers) and redress of grievances (”stop the steal”) are now subject to trial by Senate, not a jury of peers.
This broader interpretation of the “rules” WILL allow your arrest at any townhall meeting where you demand action from your elected official.
I suggest you request “trial by Senate” for any federal crime you commit.
Maybe for any federal charges that result?
Excellent point. Frankly, I’m not at all impressed with the performance of Trump’s defense team. Wish Dershowitz was on the case, like last year.
It’s a Bill of Attainder. The legislature is trying to pass a bill to punish a citizen who has displeased them.
They’re not supposed to do that.
The Constitution is explicit: If you want an impeachment trial, the Chief Justice shall preside.
That ain’t happening, so this is not an impeachment trial. It’s just tyranny to crush Republican hopes for the future. The GOP is fine with that.
I think they should keep impeaching and trying Trump over and over. That way, they won’t be able to pass their gun grabs, amnesties and tax hikes.
This is not to say that had Team Trump anchored their challenge of the proceedings on usurpation grounds would have changed the outcome of the motion to dismiss. This whole exercise is a transparent farce, needless to say. A blatantly biased “juror” is also the “judge” presiding over the “trial”. Literally, the judge and juror. The jurors as a whole are a group of politicians. Nothing even vaguely resembling “justice” could ever be expected to result from such a laughably compromised process.
That’s is in a nutshell.
Exactly!
Personally, I think the president’s lawyers will go fast today. The vote will acquit. I think PDJT has a deal with the GOP. Acquittal in exchange for not trying election fraud in this forum OR in exchange for not starting a 3rd party. Quick, easy, get this over with.
What is this Constitution thing of which you speak?
I stand by my earlier assertion, this action has negated the Constitution.
In full, not just in part.
The USA has become a Humpty-Dumpty Republic.
It's a clever slippery slope argument.
I see it as having a similar problem as the argument, "if they can do this to Trump (or Carter Page, or General Flynn), they can do it to you." Abuse of power is like prosecutorial discretion. It isn't used against everybody, just against people and groups that appear on the system's radar as enemies and threats.
Trump was fine until he started to expose our political and commerce systems for what they are. Even worse when he started to dismantle some of the machinations that enable the hidden graft and sellout of the country.
But back to the dysfunctional and dishonest senate - as a deliberative body it is a farce. The mafia is more honest and consistent. The senate is where truth goes to die. Everything it does is theater, everything it does, it does to preserve status quo, draw more poer to the federal government, and advance globalism. "Our precious and sacred democracy."
Until it collapses as did Rome.
They know they won't get a conviction. I see the goal as gaslighting the public - with the same ultimate goal that you have in mind. Marginalize Trump and his supporters. We cannot have honest government, truly free expression, and so on. We are China's "Plantation America." A satellite that appears to be but is not autonomous.
I'm firmly in the bunch being marginalized. See you in the camps!
I think your suspicion that a kinda non-aggression pact may have been struck between the GOPe and Trump isn’t just idle speculation. It fits with Trump’s MO of using accumulated leverage in the smartest way possible.
Agree. A master deal maker.
Thank you.
I value your opinion.
As my pastor once said to me, “What is the last political slippery-slope argument you found to be inaccurate?”
