Family sources tell us the mogul passed Wednesday morning in Los Angeles from heart failure.
For nearly 50 years, Flynt's been one of the biggest names in the adult entertainment industry. He launched "Hustler" magazine in 1974, which brought him fame and fortune as it skyrocketed in popularity ... and also brought countless legal issues.
Many of these First Amendment battles were chronicled in the Oscar-nominated 1996 film, "The People vs. Larry Flynt," starring Woody Harrelson.
Getty Flynt's magazine and notoriety also led to him being shot in 1978 in a murder attempt by serial killer Joseph Paul Franklin. The shooting left Larry paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair, and he suffered from constant pain and other medical issues as a result.
Along with being the name behind the Hustler brand, Flynt's the president of Larry Flynt Publications ... which produces other magazines like "Barely Legal," pornographic videos and Hustler TV.
He also opened the famous Hustler Casino near L.A. in 2000.

Flynt Publications was a customer back in 1979. On one memorable visit, the staff had hung graphic pictures on almost all of the office walls to aid in assembling the launch of “The Great Beaver Hunt.” My female associates were mortified in those days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver_Hunt ... Never encountered Larry Flynt in the office, but he could often be found at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills for early dinner at the first round table (wheelchair access).
“After The People vs. Larry Flynt appeared, Falwell and Flynt began meeting in person to discuss philosophy. They visited colleges to publicly debate morality and the First Amendment, and exchanged Christmas cards and family photos. After Falwell’s death in 2007 Flynt wrote, “the ultimate result was one I never expected ... We became friends”.
A good Christian man had a positive effect on him through his example. Hope he took it further.

I remember that in the 70s I believe he claimed to have become a born-again Christian. It didn’t last long.

Yes. I remember Hustler ran a cartoon; Chester the Molester. After Flynt’s so called conversion it was re-named Chester the Protecter.

I saw an interview of him talking about Sarah Palin a few years ago. He was beyond redeemable...but I’m not God and know his heart in the end.

Sounds like he was a Hillary supporter in 2016 and offered 10 million for Trump impeachment material. Never had to pay off on that bet.

Many years ago a wise FReeper referred to Larry Flynt as a “sack of sh*t with arms.”
That was a fairly accurate description of him after he ended up in a wheelchair.
That’s a great story.
Looking at the last years of his life, looks like he was about the same to the end, save for saying he counted Jerry Falwell as a friend. A sad life... wasted.
The Lord has final call on that one.

Except imagine a country that disallows the porn business from Playboy to Hustler, movies to videos, but protects actual political speech? That country would not be the one I am living in.
