Cops made 545,602 arrests for marijuana-related violations in 2019

NORML:

According to the most recent national data, police made 545,602 arrests for marijuana-related violations in 2019.

That is 1,494 people a day.

That is 62 people an hour.

That is more than a person minute.

This is not justice. This is not freedom. This should not be normal.

Zuri Davis:

Lives are being ruined forever over a plant that is safer to consume than legal alcohol. A criminal record is a life sentence. 545,602 people will now struggle to find jobs, a place to live, and a business loan. They can’t vote or buy a gun for self-defense.

What a waste of resources. And I’ve never touched the stuff. But it seems stupid to arrest people on this.

Some here will call them dirty druggies, then they take a swig of scotch for the third time today...

How many of those arrests are driving under the influence? Driving high is the same as driving drunk.

Bravo Sierra. The VAST majority of these violators (it is, after all, illegal most places) will be offered, and successfully complete, deferred adjudication or deferred disposition and have the charge dismissed. It doesn’t affect those people at all in the way this person asserts above.

Genesis 1:29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”

If they don’t continue the war on drugs how will they afford all of their toys?

Billions have been made by lawyers and municipalities. It’s an industry and they are the ones who are addicted.

Now, having said that, the comparison to ETOH is probably a valid one. Should it be rethought? Maybe.

And you know this from personal experience? Nobody has lost jobs , child custody or been evicted over a small amount of pot? I think we've located the Bravo Sierra.

I haven’t done it for a long time. Not a big fan (gave me headaches) however I believe if people want to do it that is up to them...

“A criminal record is a life sentence.”

Yet, they commit these crimes. Pot is not a necessity.

Good. Care to join me for a nice snack of hemlock or stinging nettle or any of the other seriously poisonous plants and “herbs”?

Pot is not a necessity.

Nor alcohol, nor tobacco; what's the conservative policy conclusion?

Driving high is NOT the same as driving drunk. Marijuana does not affect your motor skills like alcohol. There have been numerous studies that show drivers who were under the influence of Marijuana actually drove safer, slower, and were as cognizant as sober drivers.

Where is my give a damn meter?

The act of posting gives lie to the claim to not give a damn. Well played.
