Some come for the plays. Some come for the halftime show. Some come for the commercials. And yes, some are mainly in it for the opening flyover. This year, aviation nerds got a unique offering for the Super Bowl—Air Force Global Strike Command provided one each of their bombers—a B-52, a B-1, and a B-2. It would be the first bomber trio flyover for a big game. Although it wasn't heavily promoted, the aircraft's designations also add up to 55 (B-1 + B-2 + B-52=55), which was ideal for Super Bowl LV, or 55. The three bombers, with the B-2 in the lead, hit their mark exactly as Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan reached the National Anthem's crescendo, with the jets roaring by overhead, silhouetted against the Tampa Bay twilight. While the footage of the flyover was a little abrupt during the broadcast, one aviation photographer—our friend Mike Killian—captured the moment impeccably.

They didn’t deserve a flyover.
I see that that BUFF is still coal powered. I hear that the AF will be upgrading them in the future.
PR stunt.
Youngest and least experienced of all the aircrew.
Our taxpayer money would be better served by eliminating wasted flyovers, to commemorate the NFL and it chicken kneelers.
I’m sure. I’m surprised she isn’t a lesbian in a wheelchair to boot. 20/20 vision of course...
Sooo. What was a waste of money under Trump is now ok under Biden?
Yes. She is the youngest and least experienced of all the aircrew.
It’s still flight hours and a potential recruitment tool.
I have only watched one game in 4 years, but I’m fine with the flyovers.
“I thought we conservative were boycotting sports. Or is that off now?”
Not hardly. The only sport I’m interested in is musketry.
:)
My post really had nothing to do about the game and everything to do about the planes.

Consider the return on investment for the BUFF (B-52). A 1950s design with first USAF Service in 1955, the current 'H' models are expected to be flying into the 2050s!!! The flight crews then will be 4 and 5 generations from the original crews!
I no longer trust out standing army or air force. Better we didn’t have on now.
I left the farm in Nebraska in the early 60s, but Mother stayed there and we would visit every once in a while. After a while, the B-52s came and used a lane approximately 3/4 to 2 miles west of there to do “beneath the radar” training. Always flew from south to north approximately a wing span or two above the ground. Later it was the B-1s turn. I never did see one. Our tenant said that you could hear the B-52s and look to see them go by. By the time you heard the B-1, it was too late and it was gone. The only time you ever saw them was if you happened to look up when they were flying by. The sound was too late.
Exactly right!
A BUFF (Big Ugly Fat “Freaker”) B-52
A BONE (B One) B1
A BAT (Plane like Batman flies, but bigger and stealthier.) B-2
Well, yeah, but Joe just signed an Executive Order switching them to Renewable Energy.
He said the B-52 could have enormous windmill turbines, as the forward momentum would easily spin the turbine blades.
Jon F’N Kerry (who was in Vietnam) said the coal miners and oil workers could now make 5-52 turbine blades, all while they wrote code.
Stunning, unless you see them outside of America.
It was damn impressive. Nice contrast to the national anthem folk song treatment.
Commie thugs are purging the military - the left is NOT calling for any part of the military or Pentagon to be de-funded.
