I left the farm in Nebraska in the early 60s, but Mother stayed there and we would visit every once in a while. After a while, the B-52s came and used a lane approximately 3/4 to 2 miles west of there to do “beneath the radar” training. Always flew from south to north approximately a wing span or two above the ground. Later it was the B-1s turn. I never did see one. Our tenant said that you could hear the B-52s and look to see them go by. By the time you heard the B-1, it was too late and it was gone. The only time you ever saw them was if you happened to look up when they were flying by. The sound was too late.
Exactly right!

from link:
A B-52 from Minot Air Force Base was part of this year’s Super Bowl flyover in Tampa Bay.
They were joined by a B-1 Lancer from Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City and a B-2 Spirit from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
To get the B-52 from Minot to Florida, maintainers worked all weekend in negative degree weather to make sure aircrews got safely off the ground.
