What Runners Should Know About the COVID-19 Vaccines
Runner's World ^ | February 4, 2021 | Becky Wade

More than a year after COVID-19 surfaced in the United States, the pandemic rages on, with 433,000 deaths and counting in the United States as of early February. While the situation remains dire—we can only hope the virus is past its peak—there’s finally a light at the end of this long, dark tunnel.

Two vaccines, produced by Pfizer and Moderna and both in the form of a double dose, were authorized and recommended to prevent COVID in December. While the rollout is moving slower than expected—as of the end of January, about 25 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine, almost a month behind the projected timeline—there’s reason to believe that the dissemination is gaining momentum. Three more vaccines are in the midst of large-scale clinical trials, and the President Joe Biden’s administration has named combating the coronavirus its highest priority.

For the latest vaccine information and recommendations, bookmark the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention site and check it often. But since you likely won’t find any running-related answers there, we turned to three experts—all medical professionals and runners—to help fill in the gaps. Keep in mind that the virus and vaccine are both rapidly evolving situations, and that the information offered below is meant to supplement rather than replace personal advice from your physician.

What Symptoms Can I Expect From the Vaccine?

As with any shot, reactions to the COVID vaccines vary from one person to the next. Christine Firth, M.D., an internal medicine specialist in Phoenix, says that symptoms are generally not severe, and that some people don’t experience any. Firth says common side effects include pain and/or achiness at the injection site (possibly more severe than that of the influenza vaccine), general malaise/fatigue, body aches, headache, chills, fever, and joint pains...

It is important to remember that these are EXPERIMENTAL “vaccines” and the only mRNA “vaccines” to receive an “emergence” approval as “safe”. ALL PREVIOUS mRNA “vaccines” have FAILED in ANIMAL TRIALS. These “vaccines” SKIPPED ANIMAL TRIALS. The Humans are now the Animal of Choice for Big Pharma.

Ok Freepers, 1st shot of Pfizer, over 65. Sore arm, but like any shot. Stomach upset a little, may have been wife’s cooking 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. That’s it, easy-peasy for me.

I’m 82 and my wife is rapidly approaching 81, and we were vaccinated a week ago today. Most of our friends from 75 to 85 have been vaccinated. All of us are still alive.

So, we are pro vaccine for us old goats, 65 and up..

However, why would anyone not in the front line health care under the age of 65, and in good shape with zero serious diseases want to or need to be vaccinated?

You are in my parents’ generation and I have lots of senior friends. Glad you got your vaccine. Many of my older friends have managed to get at least the first dose and everyone is relieved and happy.

It was funny to observe all the seniors plotting and scheming and getting on nextdoor to get clues on how to get on which list or where to go and strategies for the fastest way to get it. It’s not easy in CA where shipments are gobbled up as soon as they arrive.

I’m 51 with no risk factors (other than not being under 50) so I will wait (no choice but to wait). I want teachers to go before me, the prima donnas. So they can get the kids back in classrooms—no more excuses! Kids are withering on the vine and teens are suicidal.

Oh but to answer your question—the reason I want to be vaccinated is so I can travel internationally. I’m pretty sure vaccination will be a requirement for that—or a negative test every time, both coming and going, which is much more of a hassle.

I think you may be in for an unpleasant surprise.

As the virus mutates (like all viruses do), the old vaccine will no longer be accepted for international travel.

You will have to keep getting new vaccines and hope you can book a trip before they change the rules—again.

If that starts to feel like you are a rat in a maze—it is because that is exactly how to plan to treat us!

Yes, the Pandemic rages on! 445,000 Americans have died, although most had other illnesses which COVID was a complicating factor for. And 400,000 of them were over the age of 80, so they probably were not “runners”. Figure 9% of the COVID cases were young and healthy enough to be “runners”.

In a country of 350 million, not counting “undocumented” residents, “runners” should be in the 9% of fatalities, which is 1/1000th of 1 percent of the people in the country. They are running scared of a disease which has a near zero chance of killing them. They are more likely to win a life-changing sum of money in a lottery somewhere.

Please make use of quotes around the word ‘vaccine’ when referencing the cited shots.

j/k (or not).

These shots are NOT vaccines. The propaganda is both infuriating and nauseating (the latter pertaining to the level of hysteria by sheeple).

You should have overheard the conversation in my earshot while performing work in a hospital. These were doctors discussing the coronavirus ‘vaccines’. Almost word-for-word, they were spouting federal propaganda while discussing continued masking & ‘social distancing’. It was rather pathetic to hear (yet not unexpected for purveyors of AMA dogma).

I must admit I’m a bit surprised at the FReepers willing to accept this “vaccine”.

There are therapeutics for COVID, namely ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine. An experimental shot is totally unnecessary. I’d rather strengthen my immune system with nutraceuticals like vitamin C, D3, Quercetin, and zinc then treat any infection by adding in Hydroxychloroquine & ivermectin than take some mRNA gene therapy that no one can tell me the long term effects of. This is an experimental shot (calling it a vaccine isn’t really accurate)

And before you pile on, I have a masters degree in nursing & my husband is a physician. We are more than capable of reading. I don’t need gaslighting from alleged “experts” like Anthony Fauci, who really is just a professional liar.

Don’t worry. I don’t feel like piling on, and I think that this vaccine should be entirely voluntary, except maybe for health care workers (more exposure to the virus, typically). That is, truly voluntary: you don’t have to get the vax for K-12, college, a non-health-care job, going on vacation or an airplane, etc.

I think the mRNA is promising: my 78-year-old aunt already got her first dose, and will get her second in a week and a half. No ill effects for her so far. But this first-in-world history type of vaccine really is also a giant experiment on America, so it should be mainly voluntary.

So you won’t find me pointing fingers, even if you didn’t have those credentials.

I’m also taking Vitamin D3 and Vitamin C, and if I found out I had been exposed to somebody with COVID, I would add zinc back into the mix. And HCQ and Ivermectin should be a must for early-stage cases to keep the hospitals from getting slammed.

Be careful, but don’t let the Chinese Frankenvirus dominate you (apologies to Trump).

It is not the immediate side effects but the ones a few months or a year or two down the road that you need two be concerned about.

The vaccine does not give you any immunity to getting the virus.
