Canada must retaliate over Biden's ill-considered Keystone decision
National Post ^ | Feb. 6, 2021 | Conrad Black

Canada absolutely has to retaliate for the outrageous and cavalier cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline. The millions of Canadians who celebrated former U.S. president Donald Trump’s departure from the White House may start to wonder if the new era is quite as paradisiacal as they had expected. President Joe Biden promised to ”rebuild our alliances,” yet with no notice given to America’s closest, oldest and least abrasive ally, with whose leader he is personally friendly, he revoked the existing arrangements and withdrew the permit to construct the pipeline, throwing 11,000 of his countrymen, and possibly as many as 40,000 Canadians, out of work.

Other executive orders that Biden issued in his first week in office reaffirmed his desire for a $15 minimum wage and additional immigration of unskilled foreigners at a time when the United States is still attempting to reduce COVID-related unemployment. The Keystone decision was connected to the usual proclamation of incoming latter-day Democrats to generate vertiginous numbers of high-paying, unionized green jobs, manufacturing solar panels at uncompetitive prices after retraining disemployed energy workers. It all has the air of a hasty and ill-considered shotgun response to the various members of the ramshackle Democratic coalition that includes organized labour, ethnic minorities, the altruistically prosperous, radical ecological advocates, the media and the academy.

This is not going to work. The only thing Biden offers is that he is not constantly, and often irritatingly, in the face of the whole country every day on television, and tweeting, often provocatively, throughout the night. President Trump’s policies were broadly endorsed by the congressional and state elections, but those who found him a trying or obnoxious public personality narrowly outnumbered the immense army of his admirers.

Like how, invade and finish the pipeline?

It was a bad move on Bidet’s part but Canada needs to realize, it is 5th rate, if that, power that is totally subservient to the US when push comes to shove.

I wouldn’t blame Canada.

Canceling the keystone pipeline because of leftist climate sensibilities and crushing their economy and ours deserves sanctions for being so stupid.

Even the Canadian liberal government thinks Biden and the American left is dumb.

What is Trudeau going to do attack Biden with his wandering eyebrows? Or is it time to go nuclear and write Biden a stern letter telling him how angry he is?

When Biden loses the Canadian liberals, he is left spitting into the wind.

It all comes back to him as the most deserved of rewards.

Justine Trudeau is on of the more sickening figures on the world stage (more or less). It’s horrible to admit that he’s right, and an American President is wrong. Ugh.

Canada should sue Joe XiBidementia, Dr Pepper Jill, his partial POC, Susan Rice and Humper BidenXi and try to get all of the bribe money that they have in foreign banks.

They can actually do worse than that. They can cutoff for a while or limit the amount of oil we get from them. Either is a retaliation and would cause the US to draw from other sources probably more expensive and harder to get. I think it’s called “sanctioning us.” And you can bet the liberals are not going to increase in ANWAR or go into the Rockies as Biden has already stopped new drilling in some states. He’s putting the candle out at both ends so there is no light at all in the room. Moron!

So they might decide to build the pipeline headed West and sell that oil to China.

In this case, leftists in Canada are in a quandary - their contempt for the USA vs. knee-jerk environmentalism.

Perhaps there will be more consensus in Canada to allow for new pipelines (or speed up existing ones under construction) running east-west to allow exports to other markets - particularly Asia.

Canada has their own foibles, but all in all they are and have been a terrific ally of the US and a great trading partner.

They have a beautiful country with lots of freedom although their gun laws suck. Our similarities are many. They also have their political nuttery, but who are we to make fun of them now?

When I trained with Canadian soldiers I found them to be very competent soldiers with good equipment. Sure, their military and every other on the planet pales in comparison, but I do not and will not have contempt for them. I’d be plenty confident to have Canadians on my flank or in my foxhole. Not many I would say that about.

I guess I am missing the reason for your scorn? Again, how can “we” make fun of their politics now?

For the record, I did think the falling eyebrow on little Justin was funny and I do make fun of him, but had I not been born American I do believe Canada would be my first choice.

Theres no reason at all other countries should recognize Biden as the U.S. President. He’s the result of a fraudulent election.

"They (Canada) can cutoff for a while or limit the amount of oil we get from them."

Absolutely would never happen whitney69.

That's the point of the Keystone. 800,000 bbl/day of uninterruptible energy flowing into the US heartland at market prices.

The only things that would interrupt that flow is a natural disaster or lack of demand.

There is no political, military, or terrorist threat to that flow.
