I am shorter than the woman mentioned in this article. It absolutely sucks. For me, I always feel invisible. My experience resulted in shyness and zero self-confidence.
But do not resent people’s preferences. I just curse what date dealt me. Everyone has their traits they are looking for and nothing is wrong with that.
I am 5’ 8” and invisible also.
Was in a similar situation.
I can understand the 5’8” gals wanting a guy closer to 6’.
What I couldn’t understand were the 5’0 and 5’2 gals insisting they would only date guys over 6’. At a certain point it would seem the mechanics get difficult there...
Back when I was single, I never got matches on dating sites. Until I started adding inches to my height. Suddenly I had more matches than I could possibly deal with and at least 1/3 of them were at least 2” shorter than I. It turned out that basically nothing was important to women except height - I tried some hysterical combinations to validate that. The irony of how women constantly shame men for being shallow when they’re literally worse always made me chuckle.
But that’s the game - you either deal with the rules or don’t play.
I’m 6’-8” and I had zero confidence around women when I was younger. I think it’s just a guy thing we try to be perfect gentlemen when we should be more assertive instead of worrying about being a jerk.
I think the article is asking “would you date a man shorter than you are”
My husband is 5’ 8” and no problems being with him for 44 years.
My wife's dad was several inches shorter than her mother. Her grandfather was shorter than her grandmother. All of her uncles were married to women who were taller than them. Our society does tend to reward tall men but I think that you worried about it too much. My wife has an aquaintance who is pretty tall and actually brags about his height. Never mind that he is a big marshmallow with bad skin and a thief to top it off. It is actually pretty pathetic that he thinks that being taller makes him a better person in some way.
I am not much if any taller than you. I never really thought much about height. When someone would mention how tall an acquaintance was I usually would not recall that they were taller than I was. I dated women who were as tall or taller than me when I was single.
I always think that it looks kind of weird when a really short woman is with a guy who is much taller than her. My wife said that she was never comfortable dating guys that were much taller than her. One of my friends at work was super tall, almost as big as Andre' the Giant when he was in The Princess Bride. He actually also had some type of medical condition that caused him to get huge. I was shocked when I met his first wife and she was a little thing that was under five feet. They seemd happy together at first but sadly they split after a while mostly because she turned out to be a mean little badger of a woman who was always hurting his feelings. But they looked like they were some type of circus act when they were together. His second wife is much taller.
This story is camoflauge around the REAL issue: it's what's in a person's heart that counts. A tall woman who avoids short men or visa versa, is a potential date to be avoided at all costs. Vanity kills, and love conquers all.
My ex was 6-1, and preferred not to be. She took many remarks about her height, which I “addressed”. Personally, I like vertically challenged gals! Seriesly! ;-)
I am in the other end of the spectrum.
I am literally one inch too tall to safely fly the plane I have flown for almost three decades. In fact, one more inch and I would not have been permitted to serve in the military. I get a medical waiver every year and an told that if I eject my neck will probably snap.
I scared girls I met. Very happy I had an arranged marriage ( to a six foot woman who thought she was unmarrigable).
Nothing in this world is made for me. Cars. Pants. Shoes. Chairs.
Plus I’m a lefty!
Guess the grass is always greener, but there is a lot to be said for being average height.
I just blame my father for my bald head. Well, him and my mother for marrying him. Not a week goes by when I don't ask her what the hell she was thinking. :-)
