Lever action rifle for personal defense
YouTube ^ | 03/30/2011 | Sheriff Jim

Democrats are about the pass the most draconian gun control legislation since 1968 GCA. Modern rifles are going to be highly restricted, if not abolished.

Elections have consequences; The powerless have no rights; and telling a judge "I shall not comply" is not going to keep you out of prison.

So hide that AR and get a lever action short rifle for defense.

Are you sure about that? I’ve seen many Westerns where a good guy with a pistol hits a bad guy behind a rock a hundred yards away.

(Just kidding. You’re right.)

Still have my old Model 94 Winchester .30-30 - circa 1956.
Cycles fine and shoots true.

The Browning mag-fed lever actions always had superior potential over pistol cartridge Marlin, Winchester, Henry offerings.

If one is going to carry a rifle, choose a rifle cartridge. There are a lot of short action candidates — 243Win, 260Rem, 308Win.

Not a lever action fan but I think Henry Arms makes a lever action in .45 acp. So you could have a 1911 sidearm and a rifle chambered for the same ammo.

Hide nothing.

If one wants a lever gun, good luck. They will be in high demand as well as their HG ammo.

I started hunting with my 16ga Browning semiauto 50 years ago. Frankly, I like it better than my 12ga Winchester pump that I've had for a few years longer.

For the last 20 some years, 16ga has fallen out of favor such that factory loads are uncommon to find on the shelf. Frustrating.....

"It kind of limits you to a rimmed cartridge but seeing revolvers will probably remain somewhat legal a 38 or 44 may be a good idea."

.357 lever gun and Taurus wheelgun.

“I favor the Winchester model 94 30-30.”

Yep. And the Winchester Model 94 32 Special has more twist, better accuracy at distance (great deer hunting in the woods rifle).

I think the point here is to a) be manual action, b) not have a removable magazine and c) hold only five rounds, to avoid the coming gun grab (for a little while longer, anyway).

I keep hoping Henry will introduce a bolt action line. I was never a fan of the lever action either.

"Ever see Hickcock45 work..."

I think you were aiming for "Leaning Right" - may need to adjust windage ; )

My comment was on the Model 94 .30-30

That doesn’t count. Hickok45 has super powers.

"If you want to know about personal protection... short-barreled pump shotgun loaded with anything between 3” mag number 2 or just 00 buck with less powder."

Number 1 buck. Endorsed by a safari leader in Africa as having the fastest dropping power at short range. Used when he was "backing up" the trophy hunters he took on hunting expeditions.

D’rats have tied in the CDC with this.

“Congress passed the Dickey Amendment in 1996, which said that federal funding could not be used to promote or advocate for gun control. The amendment effectively cut off research dollars to health agencies like the CDC and NIH.”

Then, in Dec. 2019, D’rats got in gear (knowing they would steal the upcoming POTUS election).

“Gun violence research just got $25 million in federal funds, after a 20-year drought in funding for that purpose. The spending bill passed by US lawmakers today allocates half of the money to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and half to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).”

All planned.

Our 401k and IRA are next on their list.

The CDC is an enemy of the 2nd Amendment.

Actually this isn't the first time someone's advocated for the lever action as an "Urban social weapon".

A lever gun in a rimmed handgun caliber will hold more than five, and helpfully the shooter is able to keep the magazine topped off by adding single rounds as he shoots.

.30-30, .44 magnum and even .357 magnum are at least sufficient chamberings. (Oh yeah... if you want play the contrarian and impress the old timers, get a lever gun in .35 Remington...)

Really, even in the day of ARs and "MSRs", what's not to like about it? Put a compact scope or an optical on it and one is well armed.

Your point about about a gun grab is spot on though. They'll try whatever they think they can get away with.
