Was chatting with my sister. A friend of hers was crying in church after services. Turns out her friend's son was seriously injured in a weight-lifting accident.
My sister sat next to her, and hugged and prayed with her for her son.
Some church goers passed by and expressed displeasure at my sister's "violation" of social distancing.
My sister said she felt bad, and wondered whether what she did was right. I told her those people were idiots, and said it's as if we are no longer permitted to express compassion.
Sorry, had to rant.
Funny about that....
I like social distancing....IN A CHECK OUT LINE!
The simple answer here is that people are (or at least should be) free to express themselves and associate how they please. Of course this means taking risk/reward into account and acting of their own volition (personal responsibility and all that entails).
That some people prefer to use what they perceive as a public health issue as a cudgel and do so without meaningful evidence to support their claims or to at least logically analyze their own thoughts/opinions/actions with regard to that is, well, nearsighted.
In a place of worship to one’s God whom all rights supposedly derive from it is unconscionable that some parishioners might see fit to castigate someone for associating freely and exercising their rights.
Please tell your sister she did nothing wrong and to think on things that Christ and his followers did (helping lepers, others with communicable disease, etc.) I think that might help some people to consider that what they are preaching now contradicts the teachings of their faith and natural law.
That’s this layperson’s nickel on it anyhow.
This social distancing stuff has really been hard down here in the South. We are big time huggers down here. Plus we touch and pat a lot. It has really put a crimp in our social style.
Exactly.
Here’s how to deal with such idiots.
Stick your thumb in your mouth, a half inch will do.
Act like you’re blowing into it real hard, like blowing up a balloon. Make sure you puff out your cheeks.
Slowly raise your middle finger...
It’s inhuman. Also, why use seven syllables (Practice Social Distancing!) when two (Spread out!) would do? I’ll answer—corrupting language is a huge priority for totalitarians and would-be tyrants.
