Biden has effectively given away the store to Putin.
.... the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden, held a telephone conversation. During the conversation, Biden and Putin agreed to a five-year extension of START-3, until 2026, “100% on Russian terms, without additions, in the form in which it was originally signed.” As a result of the call, the authorized Duma committees were ordered to urgently take the necessary steps to extend START-3. On that same day, Putin submitted to the State Duma a bill on the ratification of START-3 through 2026; it immediately passed. Putin’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov enthused that “START-3 is being extended on Russian terms, for 5 years, without any conditions or additional requirements, without attempts to change the START verification regime, without those, in our view, absurd and unacceptable aspirations of the previous administration to make sure to draw the PRC [China] into this process without fail."
Biden ran on a platform that was endorsed by the entire American security and foreign policy establishment. The platform stand was to rebuild international multilateralism, taking no actions without coordination with our allies.

On Tuesday afternoon January 26, C-SPAN broadcast Biden’s press briefing on Racial Equity, held in the White House State Dining Room. Following his remarks, he ceremoniously signed four related executive orders. After signing the fourth, Biden stood up abruptly and made to leave the room. On his way out, a young reporter could be heard calling out, “Mr. President, what did you talk to Mr. Putin about?” Over his shoulder Biden tossed back the quip, “You! He sends his best.” -- and hightailed it out of the room before he could be pinned down with having to explain what he and Putin said during the call.

I don’t think he did this on his own. I think he was instructed to by his staff/Admin. I think it’s part of a “to do list” he was handed.

A fox reporter asked biden about the call....he gave an unbelievably smartass answer. What a Jackass.
“C’mon man! We are at a greater risk if we have more missiles. Let Russia have more missiles, then they won’t be afraid of us and they won’t attack us!
I mean, you know - look at the thing. Same with our police. Defund the police and folks won’t be afraid of them. Stop the violence.”

Biden is not capable of doing anything on his own.. probably incapable of having a rational thought. Obama’s third term with all his primary actors.
Biden’s offer is just another in a long series of dovish moves from the Democrats. The Democrats talk tough, but tend to be doormats on foreign policy. Hillary’s reset button was neither an accident nor an exception.
Trump was tougher on Russia than *any* of his predecessors. The thing with Trump is that he was very conciliatory in words with Putin, but he really crapped all over Russia. There’s just no way, for instance, that either Biden or Obama would have authorized airstrikes on Russian mercs advancing on (while firing artillery rounds at) US troops in Syria. In fact, I’m not sure any president since 1945 would have. Trump is sui generis - one of a kind. Any other president would have instructed US troops to back off.
Trump’s relationship with Russia might be likened to a guy who beats his girlfriend (except Russia is not really our girlfriend). He smacks her upside the head, then whispers sweet nothings in her ear. He repeats this cycle over and over. Russia flouts arms control treaties? Trump withdraws from them. Russia wants to build a gas pipeline to the EU? Trump sanctions the heck out of all the companies that want to provide parts for the pipeline.
That’s why the EU hates Trump. He kiboshed all their corrupt, self-serving, middle finger extended at Uncle Sam, side deals with Russia. The reasoning being - “if we’re protecting you from Russia, why are you feeding the monster? Maybe you should provide more of your own protection. You could certainly afford it.”
I have been screaming this for 12 years now. However it draws upon deaf ears at FR.
