Temporary.....
It’s the water........................
Horrible beer. But I had no choice in college
That’s Rainier ALE.
So, you do not need to be good to be iconic.
I used to drink a lot of Olympia beer about 40 years. I haven’t seen it for a long time.
Black label beer, old Milwaukee, schlitz, and more im sure. Slight Beer flavored water.
Old mildew was the “mechanics beer”
Heavily-hopped IPAs are the fad, and have been for five or ten years. You go to the beer section of any large store and they will have literally dozens of IPAs, probably 70% of their total stock. I don’t get it.
I visited their brewery way back in 1973. Very quaint place to visit.
When I worked for Lucky Stores back in the 1970s Olympia, Coors, and Bud were the best sellers.
Olympia was a great beer when made with Tumwater. When it sold out, the can no longer carried the Tumwater statement. I believe it was then brewed in the mid America area.
Years ago,1975, at THE COPPER PENNY in Farmington NM, we ordered COORS in a bottle. It was so bitter BAD I quit trying to drink it. I had to order two Olympias to get the Coors taste out of my mouth.
Huh?
Just bought a 6-pack of Oly Talls a couple weeks ago for making stew. Cheapest on the shelf and tastes fine once you’ve added beef and cooked the alcohell out of it.
That was my go-to beer when I was a kid. Very popular in Alaska at the time.
There ant no beer but Lone Star on tap - with a giant plate of tacos and a Dallas Cowboys game. No girls allowed That’s living, right there
You have not drank rancid beer until you drank Iron City.
Anybody remember ABC ale from back in the 70s in Florida? It was the house brand of a liquor store chain called ABC Liquor. Pretty bad stuff, but it contained alcohol.
During the gas crisis recession when a buddy and I were both out of work we pooled our money and bought a 6 pack of ABC Ale for $0.99 and a pack of Marlboros for $0.45. When that was gone I drove by my parent’s house and helped myself to a couple shots of their bourbon.
When I was little in SoCal and my dad took me into bars (I would get a Roy Rogers) I remember the signs saying Western Beers (like Olympia, Coors, Brew 102) and Eastern Beers (Budweiser, Pabst, & Hamms). As I recall the Eastern beers cost more.
Rainier was horrible but their commercials were legendary. The Budweiser frogs were a complete ripoff from Rainier’s commercials from the 70’s. Also, did anyone drink “Animal Beer”: Schmidt, Buckhorn etc?. How about Heidelberg?
